: Child seat tether TJ question

Hey all,

I'm looking at some used TJ's and I like a '98 Sahara I found. I see that the 2000+ models were modified with child seat tethers in the rear. I have a baby in a carseat currently and would like to know:
-are the tethers built into the rear seat or the rear floor?
-has anyone bolted their own "tether anchors" into the floor, like LATCH?"

If they are built into the rear seat, is there any reason why I can't just get a rear seat from a 2000+ model and install it in the '98?

Thanks in advance for any info/advice. Hey, if you did your own mod and you have photos, link them too if you don't mind.

There are no seat tethers in a TJ. There are however several cargo loops in the floor that you can clip most tether straps to. They are not rated for car seats but are pretty stout. I have strapped mine in the front and back, as long as you use the seat belt the tether is just a little extra assurance.

I have a 2002 TJ and mine did not come with LATCH or tethers. It wasn't mandatory until 2003 from what I was told. If only I had known this at the time I would have waited a year and bought a Rubi.

Hey,

Check with your dealer...from what I have been reading online there were supposed to be tethers for the 2000+ TJ's and there was a dealer recall issued to address that for 2000+ jeeps that came without. That ought to include your 2002.
I'll see if I can find the link where I read that yesterday.
