I know that you guys have told everyone that the ones with kingpins are better..
I will be running a ford axle. the best for these is the 78-79 right?
I assume there are more years that run kingpins, but other than being non balljoint, what are the differences between the two.

if you guys say to get kingpins instead of ball joints because big tires will wear em out, then I say my bud runs 42's on a balljoint D44, and it has never broken, never had to replace a thing for 2 years... so what's the main diff... ???

thanks guys
Joe

Diff offset more to the driver's side for the 86-97... Makes fitting radius arm ears a bit difficult.

78/79 also has different brake hardware that doesn't adapt to 15" wheels. The 86-97 axles can fit 15" wheels with 2.5" BS and/or some grinding.

78/79 have a 32" spring center or so and the 85-up 60's have a 36" spring center so the short side tube is very short. The bad thing about 78/79 60 axles is that they neck down so they are thickest at the splines so they can not be cut and resplined like the other 60's can. The only real advantage of a king-pin 60 is the ease of hy-steer arms other than that the ball joint 60's are much cleaner because the grease squirts out of all the king-pin joints. Also since the king-pin knuckle is not fixed to the "C" like a ball joint the knuckle move some so keep shocks clear of the top of it or it will hit them and you will not have any idea how it was able to do that. I run a king-pin 60 so I know something about them.

44 front and 14 rear. Only the K30's came with 60's to my knowledge.
