: no flamage please
blysccr 12-17-2008, 09:55 PM me being a jeep guy came across a set of fj40's. the guy has the title. he said the one was driving, the other is a parts car. the one with the good body is a later model he said, and the one with the good frame/drive train is the earlier model. can i get some things to look for and what it means? ie engine choice and what not to make it good? thanks a lot
orangefj45 12-18-2008, 06:13 AM this is the cruiser section, not the jeep or chevy forum. we don't eat each other for lunch. ( i can see where this is going )
but since you're a jeeper: :flipoff2: welcome to the club.
you need to get some more info:
what year are the 2 cruisers?
most of the mechanical parts will interchange anywhere from 58 thru 84 although there are some subtle differences both mechanically and cosmetically.
the earlier engines ; pre 75 "F" engine, put out a little less power than the later stuff, the "2F". the 4spds are a lot more fun to drive than the earlier 3spds.
look for body rott in the rear below the tailgate, in the sill area. most common area for rust and it works its' way from the inside out so look in the fenderwells.
so get some more info, take and post some pics and we'll go from there.

blysccr 12-18-2008, 07:28 AM lol if i get this, it will stay mostly stock, because i cannot lower myself to do any damage to that thing, it's beautiful,...but fugly jeeps on the other hand lol jk. but they are much more common than a decent fj40. i;ll try to get up there on sunday and take some pics. thanks, its kinda nice with no flamage too haha
LukeZero 12-18-2008, 08:41 AM The other suggestion is to check out the FAQs and Wiki at www.ih8mud.com.
I know it's frowned-upon to direct someone to another site- but in this case, your questions regarding which years came with which engine, etc. might best be answered there.
blysccr 12-18-2008, 03:35 PM he has the title, and said it was a later model. and "for a little more" he'd throw in the earlier one. the parts one is white, but a little rougher, and the good one is that blue color. i didnt really get to check it out but i want to sunday and i'll be sure to get pics. what would be some blind ball park figure from you guys? thanks
this anti-flaming is kinda nice
liveforocks 12-18-2008, 07:50 PM I paid $1000 for mine with no top or doors in rough shape. i beat out like 30 other people for it. look under it for rust around the rockers and in the corners. If there isnt much rust its good to go but if its a rust bucket save your time and money. this was it when i got it

blysccr 12-18-2008, 07:57 PM hey no prob... he said he drove it to carlise truck show...so it seems fine. this would be something that i get as is, drive around, and tinker with, i don't need it. i need propane and a d300 for my yj but this is just bad ass
fyresq 12-19-2008, 07:24 PM You should just save your time and money...........and give the guys number to me. Cruisers are ugly, aren't worth much, and suck to drive......:flipoff2:
blysccr 12-20-2008, 05:56 AM lol i give it to you. he has like, 100 old jeeps. cj5 is newest, and only 3 of those. but has willys, gladiators, two cj6, a few jeepseters, and one has a hydraulic soft top. some power wagons lol. it's sweet. but most of them have sat out. he also has 150 ish old trucks like 65 to 45 it's just crazy. but anyways, i'llgive it to you if you want
