We have an annual trip that normally takes place Feb/March. After crossing the damn and passing the boat ramp, we camp as far as we can make it on the trail. Is this off limits this year now? Can we wheel around the lake and on the fire roads?

Thanks for any input, would rather know before we plan a trip in the case we must go elsewhere. Don't want to risk legal trouble, or further trail closure.

Technically, no. You may only drive on non-native surfaced roads. If there is dirt underneath, it's closed to March 31st and maybe beyond.

If there is pavement underneath, then it's game on. See my sig....Eldorado already has.

So after March 31st it is fair game regardless of whats on the ground?

Yes...

Unless the Forest Sup EXTENDS the wet weather closure.

as long as they do not extend the seasonal closer and no resourse damage is done. so even if the road is open, you can get in trouble if it is to muddy for travel

What would your opinion be on a campfire that will obviously sink down? Would that be considered resource damage?

No.

They burn on the ground anyway.

Rick means if the FS thinks you are tearing up the forest floor by spinning tires in mud...then they may ticket you for resource damage.

The Rubicon thru Wentworth.

It's the only dirt road you can currently travel on during the winter in ELdo.

Or you could do Iron Mountain Road and the paved roads in that area. Those are not plowed unless 50 is shut down.

Are there places to Camp/Park off Iron Mountain?

Rick is a better one to answer that since it's basically his backyard...

But yes, down Bonettii or North/South there are places. (depends on where you can get with the snow) Camping right off Iron Mountain is tough becuase there are so many people there during the day...the farther up you can make it the better,,,

With the new restrictions, you just cannot pull more than 1 car length off a paved route :shaking: So you would have to do a little searching.

Sounds like it could be interesting with trailers.

The Forest Service tells you not to make a campfire in the snow above a paved raod, other than that you are fine.

you can drive on any of these roads off Iron Mountain during the seasonal closure
10N55 Bonetti Road
10N59 Snow Mill Road till end of chip seal (6 miles)
10N83 North South Road
10N43 Light Canyon Road
11N46 Alder Creek Road
09N30 Capps Reservoir Road
11N40 Silverfork Road **if accessible**

many of these has some decent places you can camp depending on the snow conditions. Iron Mountain starts at 3600 feet and goes up from there to 7600
