Not really 4x4 related but way too cool not to share. Version 1.2 of this machine needs it's own little puffer to clean up after itself.

Make that thing about 10x's bigger and that would be awsome for a mold shop just bolt down material all over the shop set up homes for each one and let the thing go to town.

Honestly there is nothing that that thing did that couldn't be done on a normal 3 axis machine with a ballnose or lollipop endmill (its all profiled from above, no undercuts etc). I do like that you could just bolt it to a piece of stock and leave.

I like this video by the way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LCaRqQ8Qf8 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS9oxp0mlw8&NR=1

Yeah the Okuma is just off the chart awesome. It looks like one of the Matrix machines that is gonna take over the world and enslave mankind.

Was a smart mofo that wrote the cutting/motion software for that thing.

That's really cool, but what exactly can it do that a normal 4axis CNC can't do.

be taken somewhere and bolted to the side of a building to do detail work perhaps.

Hexapod is a cool idea. The Okuma machine can do everything a 5 axis can do but not as much as a 4 axis. This means you can machine the top and sides of a part but not the underneath unless it has another axis (conventional 4th or rotary) to get to the bottom of the part. A Hexapod spindle on the top and bottom of a part would be wild!
