I just saw on an application chart for diffs that toy had a ten spline in some cruisers? HUH? I thought they were all 30 spline?

The chart was on differentials.com

Other than the 10 spline side gears and the smaller 8mm flange bolts, the early 3rd members are the same as the later ones. If you put in the later 30 spline side gears and drill out the holes, they will make great trail spares. You can throw it out at my house. :D

Actually trolling for information on Rover compatability. Early rover shiat is 10 spline, and toy thirds fit right in with a redrill of the mounting....

Rover options for mods on the 10 spline rover diffs are few and far between.... one locker option, a $650 plus arb. Is it the same story with the early toy stuff?

You can get a 10 spline Lockright for LC 3rd members, but I'm not sure about other lockers.

Redrangie remember the toy third you need for a rover is a mini third not a cruiser third but you might be able to swap the side gears out of the cruiser into the mini.

1.31" axle diameter, on late model junk....but ive never seen an early one

and ruff is right, we both saw the re-drilled housing, and its very cool with the HP mini diff in it, the guy did it in half an hour or something!!!!

BJ, Ruff,

THanks for chiming in... I just gathering any and all information. So let me get this straight, fj80 diff's are considered "mini"? Is that just a reference to the 8" vs the 9"?

Maybe it's just a US thing? The word mini conjures up images of lowered pick up trucks that go "boom" at the stoplight....

For the record, the axle diam on rover 1.27 I believe, so it would be a machine down thing...

Yes thats corect the FJ80 front diff is the same size as a toy pickup diff.

This is what i supplied SAM(strange rover) to use in the front of his and we are using a pickup rear centre. But he just had custom axles made.

I have never seen a cruiser with 10 spline axle gears over here so i cant say if the splines are the same. We had cruiser diffs that had 10 spline pinions but all the axles as far as i know are 30 spline over here.
