heres the deal
i am receaving a 98 ranger :D:Dfrom my pops that was promised to me for a grad gift but i have a question?
it's tags are bad... like way bad, about 5 or 6 years or so... now somewhere i heard that if a vehicle is not registered for a few years that the dmv will drop it from there system and it will be registered as a fresh vehicle in the computer or at least the tag won't keep pilling up... is this true...
a nether myth i heard was that in a transfer they will only charge so many years in back tags. if so how many and is that go for direct family transfers as well
this all applies because it is 4x4 converted to 4x2 and i will be putting the front end guts back in and running at a place every one up on this mount know a the pinnacles... it is an off-road rec area but i need to be able to drive it there, back and to work the next day
what good lifts are available for this year also if anyone knows it is a 2d king cab 4x4?

Yes this is true. The registration drops off after 7 years without any DMV activity or police contact. Best way to check is just go down to the DMV and try to register it. Also the whole gift thing is a pain in the ass, extra paperwork, just say the sale price was $1.

Exactly, when I blew the motor in my 'Yota I let it sit for awhile. All I had to do was go down to the tag office and sign a form saying it wasn't being driven on the road due to engine malfunction. Otherwise it would have been a $50 fine for taking insurance off the vehicle and still operating it.

Mine was expensive because it wasnt "non-opt". As in they guy basically blew off the registration bills, and i had to pay them. Ive had my mazda non-opt for 3 years now, its about 70 bucks to put it back on the road. It all matters if the last guy fawks ya.

it was agreed when i bought the truck, and i was only planning on using it as a parts truck when i got it. But yes, you are correct. If its agreed when you buy it, they have to pay it. Get it in writing. :grinpimp:
