: How hard to instal Traction Lok in 8.8? AthlonAJ 08-16-2002, 09:29 AM Have an 8.8 from a 99 Explorer that I'm putting in my Jeep, it doesn't have the LS but I can get it super cheap ($50) from a friend. So I was thinking of installing this while I save up for a locker but would like to know how hard this is? If the trac lok needs rebuilding (which is most likely the case), then you are better off keeping the open diff, as the time and effort of rebuilding the trac lok isn't worth the teeny-tiny traction advantage. Trac-loks aren't that hard to rebuild, I just don't think it is worth it. 4x4junkie 08-17-2002, 01:08 AM Some of those Ford Traction-Loc diffs work quite well, but many don't. I don't know why the variability. It doesn't seem to correlate with any particular range of model years. Without a way to tell, I wouldn't bother with it, especially while saving for a real locker.
