: How hard to instal Traction Lok in 8.8?

Have an 8.8 from a 99 Explorer that I'm putting in my Jeep, it doesn't have the LS but I can get it super cheap ($50) from a friend. So I was thinking of installing this while I save up for a locker but would like to know how hard this is?

ASS-uming the trac lok is all put together, then it will be no harder than installing a regular open diff. If the trac lok needs rebuilding (which is most likely the case), then you are better off keeping the open diff, as the time and effort of rebuilding the trac lok isn't worth the teeny-tiny traction advantage. Trac-loks aren't that hard to rebuild, I just don't think it is worth it.

Some of those Ford Traction-Loc diffs work quite well, but many don't. I don't know why the variability. It doesn't seem to correlate with any particular range of model years.
Without a way to tell, I wouldn't bother with it, especially while saving for a real locker. Keep the open for now

Good idea, seems more a pain than it's worth.
