Hello!

I have a 95 YJ and we are swapping in a 241 t-case from a Rubicon. I want to run a clocking ring and make a flat belly skid plate.

Questions is: the input on the 241 is shorter than the input on the 231 we took out. The output shaft of the 3 speed auto trans only sticks in there about 1" more or less, where the 231 input grabbed about 2"

I talked to Advance adapters to see if the have a coupler or some thing that will help mate the two and was told that there really shouldn't be a problem running it like that...

Problem is when I throw on the 3/8" thick or so clocking ring, I lose that amount out of the input and it wouldn't grab enough to work.

Anybody know if the input from the 231 will fit in the 241 and work???

or I can scrap clocking ring and just run it as it goes together

or I can cut off 1" or so from the input of a 231 and have a machine shop mate it to the input of my 241 and increase the grab that way...

Any other options I should look at?

Thanks for your time.

Chris

No and no. Different planetary gear ratios, different inputs...

I'd just run it.

This is what I figured...

NP241OR (always a short, 23 spline gear. Not interchangeable with any other input gears)

Someone said to just re-drill the t-case adapter on the back of the tranny and clock it that way... will that work?

As long as the holes don't end up where there are reinforcement ribs on the tranny tailhousing... That's really the only issue I can think of.

True, I'm assuming that the adaptor is similiar to the one used on my AW4 - which is easy to redrill and clock 15 degrees.

There are some pictures here on my buddies website. The adaptor and pics shown are on my YJ

Make a ring out of plexiglass transfer the holes you need to this. Use the plexiglass to see if the case will accept the pateren with out a clocking ring.

Use centering punches to start your new holes you only get one shot at drilling them. Why fuck it up?

Are you sure that the new case doesn't simply bolt up correctly ,they both have the same 6 bolt circular bolt pattern and the same spline count .If you have an inch of engagement on the shafts , then you are good to go.

They mate up fine and there is about 1" of engagement, but when I add the clocking ring to run the t-case flat, I lose 3/8 of that inch...the thickness of the ring.
