: I'm looking for a tow rig

Since the Bronco is near completion, I'm gunna need to tow it soon. I was supposed to haul it to a buddies 'wheeling place last weekend to test a few things, but I couldn't get ahold my friend who was supposed to tow it, or my other friend who was supposed to let me borrow his trailer. I can't rely on my friends (or bother them) for long, so I figure it's time to start looking.

I have a DD, so the tow rig will be used on weekends, and maybe a day or so during the week just to keep the bearings and seals lubed.

$5k-$6k is my budget...I hope to get a loan through my bank. Haven't talked to them yet. Was hoping to find a few trucks in my price range, then go talk.

Throughout my following list, a 5-speed and 4x4 is preferred:

So far, I'm considering a '92-'97 F350 with the 460 (or PSD). 2nd Gen Dodge 3500 ('94-'01) w/ the Cummins. (However, every single one I've seen has either been worked to death with 400k miles or are nice and the owner wants >$10k :shaking: )

I've even thought of the mid-'80's model Chevy military trucks (5/4 ton as they call them...forgot the military designation however)

Even a nicely restored M35A2 Deuce and a Half. That would be #1 on my list :smokin: They can be had for cheap, and will run off nearly anything if diesel goes back up to $4-$5/gal.

I only got a loan thru a bank once for a car but they only would loan on a car that was 5 years old or less as I recall. So u might just give them a call to get some info.

The older Dodge CTD's are cheap and will get the job done. They are ugly so you everyone looks for the newer (94 up) trucks, including me. If you aren't going to DD it and your just looking for a work horse you might want to consider it.

Very nice. I'll have to think about it, and I'd like to look locally a little bit more if possible. I'm already talking to a guy about his Deuce here in town. I won't be towing very far...maybe 60 miles round trip, with one or two trips a year to Richmond (about 2.5hrs away from me).

I've heard about that, but I was just thinking of asking the bank for a personal loan, and not mentioning the vehicle. I'll ask and see what they say...

My friends' dad has a '93 D250 in excellent shape with the CTD in it. Awesome work truck, and we're always borrowing it to haul vehicles. In fact, that's the truck that pulled my Bronco to his place when he originally bought it, and then to my house once I bought it from him. To be honest with you, I really haven't seen any others around these parts that weren't beat/rusted all to shit, had a bad tranny, or had 500k on them.
