Installed 8.8 in Jeep TJ, tilted such tht oil fill plug is very high. Question how much gear oil should be used in the Ford 8.8 axle without adding to much?

Service manual for a full size Ford truck says 5.5 pints in an 8.8 axle.

Thanks, I put too much in then. Is that 5.5 pints with limited slip additive, or 5.5 pints of gear oil + additive?

Fill it to the plug anyway, otherwise you might kill a pinion bearing. Any excess will blow out the vent tube.

x2, you can't overfill it.

It seems like you're adding oil in the 8.8 forever. Each quart you go through you think it's gonna be the last. Your arm will get tired after the first or second quart because it's such a pain in the ass to get to it... but eventually it will ooze out of the hole and you'll be done.

Thanx for reply added 3 quarts + additive just hate to buy one quart at a time thinking ok this one is it but still no ooz, I will make another run to autozone and grap about four quarts and what doesn't filler up will go into the trail box. By the way had her out in the rocks and mud 2 x this week and was very happy with the Ford 8.8 axle, definatly would have broke it if it where a D35 with locker.
