Hi, I am building a trail rig and have ran into a problem. I built up a 318 and doge 727 tranny but it is the divorced tranny and I want to mate a dana 300 to it. I realize now that amc made a 727 mated to a dana 300 but I already built my dodge 727. I heard that I can go to pick n pull and pull the 727 adaptor from a j truck and that will work??? since I put money into my 727 I want to keep it. anybody out there know? also im thinkin since it's divorced 727 that it mite be the same tailshaft as the 2wd 727? simply put...again I just want to mate a dana 300 to my already built dodge 727. thanks

You are going to need the adapter and tailshaft from the AMC 727 trans. The tailshaft replacement will require a total disassembly of your trans, you will also need to re check, and possibly readjust the input shaft end play.

thanks bro, now I don't know if I should just eat the cost of my rebuilt tranny and small stall. I just dumped 800 and got it dialed in. any thoughts?? I liked the thought of the 727 because I am using my built 318. thanks again for the info.

The 727 is the only transmission to use for a Mopar engine if you are going wheeling and want to stick with an automatic. The tailshaft and tail housing swap is not a huge deal. You will not have to rebuild the 727 again, just disassemble it. Nothing should have to be replaced unless you nick a seal or something. Most of the stuff will come out in small sub-assemblies. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, take it to a shop. They shouldn't hurt you too bad to swap the shaft.

Will the AMC 727 bolt right up to the Dodge 318?
