: Silenced AR
flatbelly7 12-20-2008, 03:51 PM I shot a "silenced" AR today. I have never been around a suppressed gun, I honestly thought that it would be a whole lot quieter than what it was. I did not catch the exact model that it was but it was a Advanced Armament Corporation brand. If one was interested in purchasing "silencer/suppressor" what is the best/quietest brand?

Thats what TV/Media/Movies do

You mean all suppressed weapons don't make that tah-werp laser sound?
TheRedHorseman 12-20-2008, 04:32 PM If it's an AAC can, it's probably on the quieter end of cans out there.
What a can on an AR does is take it from "OMG MY FUCKING EARS ARE BLEEDING!" noisy down to a level that doesn't hurt to shoot without ear protection.
Tim84K10 12-20-2008, 05:18 PM I shot a silenced .22 once.
"Click" "Ting"
I wouldn't expect the same from an AR.

they might on the receiving end but I have not tried that out
Gozuki 12-20-2008, 06:04 PM IMHO, the quietest supressors are movie "silencers". They are bad ass. Notice the nouns? Surpressor/Silencer?
flatbelly7 12-20-2008, 07:01 PM It seemed louder than the ones on this video

ItsaCJ6 12-20-2008, 07:55 PM It's all sound manipulation..
I love shooting off a cliff since the sound doesnt come back, all you here is the action...

Couple of years ago at one of our local shoots....and yes, he's bump firing...
aloharover 12-21-2008, 02:21 AM I will try and remember to bring my Sony next time I go out. Will shoot the .22, .223, and .308 YHM cans.
I need to get some 22 subsonics.
Also want to try and load some for the 308 bolt gun.
I wonder how accurate a 200g SMK would be at 1100fps or am I tyhinking about this wrong and I should be trying a 110g at 1100fps?

Auto gain control on a video camera makes all suppressors sound about the same.
Were you shooting from a covered bench? Covers reflect a lot of sound back to the shooter.

Try both without the can and see if your barrel stabilizes them properly. Baffle strikes suck.

what twist is your .308? i'd want to try the 240 smks at 1100. i think a 9 or faster should stabilize them.
i want to try the 240 smks at 2850+ but i'm not worried about being quiet:D
aloharover 12-21-2008, 07:36 AM 308 enfield. I would not try a 308 subsonic on the FAL or M14. I doubt it would cycle.

Since no one has mentioned it...
Assuming it was a .223, the round is supersonic. You can trap most of the gas with the can to quiet the gun down, but the bullet still creates a sonic boom as it leaves the weapon. ;)

the FAL "might" if you close the gas all the way. closed gas + the suppressor might do it.

Shot a thread on YHM suppressed SBR FAL in 308 with the gas off and on with subsonics loaded by the Class III that took me shooting and it would cycle, but he says he's worked on the gun alot. I was quieter with gas off, like a bolt gun suppressed, but nothing like a .22 bolt or a .223. Still louder than I would like to shoot without hearing protection.
