i have a yellow top. i used it regularly till i decided to swap the whole drivetrain, includint the motor. so it sat from may till like july at which point i ploped in and started the 350. it was dead so i charged it and it was ok. so then it sat till oct while i was doing the 1 ton axles and stuff well its dead again. ya think it will come back or is it a gonner.

yeah i remember someone in auto saying that if u leave it on concrete that it will drain that battery.

<FONT COLOR="Red"> The yellow tops are "deep cycle" and made to withstand being run all the way down. Regular "starting" batteries do not survive this nearly as well (but do sometimes). Run it.. </FONT c>

If you can find someone with a DC onboard welder (Premier, or (Yuck) Mobi) have them charge it off the welder.

High frequency DC does nice things to over calcified batteries.

Just charge it and use it. Those yellow tops are possesed and cant even be killed by an exorcist. I have even ran my red tops down to nothing several times,(in the cold nights and hot days of the Las Vegas Climate, and on concrete) dropped them from the tail gate and cracked the case, overcharged them on a charger(untill it was bulging on the sides), and they still work like a champ.
They are nearly bomb and idiot proof.

mine burned a hole into it in a carb fire and it still works fine...oh..btw that concrete thing is an old wives tale!!

I shot my yellow top out of a cannon and then droped it in the sea, still works as good as the day my friend gave it too me after he rolled his Jeep. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

it is now just a myth that batteries are no good if you leave them on the concrete. back in the day when batteries used to have cardboard cases, if you put a battery on the concrete it would lose its charge, but now that they have plastic cases this is not true

My red top sat for a year, recharged it, worked fine. Sat for another year, recharged it, worked fine. Left the key in the ignition for the last 4 or 5 months, one click to the right(OOOOOPS), gonna recharge it, and hope it works fine. For $120 it's worth tryin'.

How do you get any frequency with DC ?

my friends VR went out and started charging his red top @ about 22 volts, shot some neat acid out of those little holes on the top of it, still works though <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Mine got run down several times from sitting from non use. My buddy even left the ignition on (for like 3 months or so). I remember checking it with the volt meter and it was at 0.00V. That got me scared. Charged it and as far as I know the guy I sold the truck to is still using it. Can't tell you how many times I used the starter motor in pull the broken Jeep up and down my lifted car trailer (sometimes without ramps).

Dude...Man.. Like i totally left like my rig parked in a lake for like 5 years, then I pulled battery out and put it in the back of the truck to take to the dump when it fell out on the Hwy @ like 95 MPH.. It got ran over by a Semi-truck and bounc'd off the road...
3 years later while doing "community srvice" by clean'n the side of the Hwy. for littering, I found the same battery and once again picked it up to take to the dump,when My truck wouldn't start....I just bolted it in and it still works <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">

Maybe not all that, but my rigs been on it's side more than not and it's not spilled a drop... <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

The premier power welder puts out 115v DC. But you're right, no "frequency", because the charge does not reverse drection at any time... That's what the rectifier circuit in the thing is for.

This is also why you sould check any tool (drill, blender, curling iron, ect.) before counting on it on the trail, as some AC motors don't enjoy DC. But most don't really care.</font>
