Not bad for free, yes i got it free, i just had to move it out of a basement machine shop. But it was totally worth it!

It came with 4 collets, but this mill doesn't have a drawbar like a bridgeport, it has a threaded collar the compresses the collet up into the spindle. It came with an adapter to use R8 but there is no hole going thru the spindle for a drawbar. So how do i use R8 collets?

Am I stuck using this weird collet setup? Or can i somehow make it work. I don't see a way how to hold the R8 adapter or R8 collet into the spindle

Go and register on this forum and ask these guys:

http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=38

There will be experts that will know the best options for tooling on that mill.

I second that! I've been lurking there for over a year now and there is a wealth of information to be had from those guys. They are great and they bend over backwards to help you!

Just keep the questions relavant...Don T. (Milacron) has a little tolerance for off topic stuff, but not that much.

Yeah there is close to ZERO-Chit chat over there. Post relevent to machine tools or mechanical stuff. Title of post must describe what the hell it is about, Teaser post titles piss off Mr Don like nothing else. Also anything regarding chinese tools and mini lathes or mills will be locked and referred to the home hobby site: http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/index.php

Nice Score!

Not familiar with that model, but do your research before posting on Practical Machinist. Irony is I signed up early on, but rarely reply as no tolerance for off topic stuff. :flipoff2:

On the tooling, keep in mind some tooling is automatically releasing other tooling is non-releasing (like R8 taper). The coefficient of friction of the material, versus the angle (tooling taper). So without a draw-bar, it will limit what you can use. You can still find a bunch of tooling and get a lot down with that machine and just a few standard mill sizes.

What size collets did it come with? I have a full set of 1/16th.... yet, 95% of the time I'm using a 3/8" mill and a drill chuck mounted in the quill. So don't worry about lack of tooling. I needed a 12mm milling cutter, rather than buying a new mill and collet, it was easier to use some 1/2" tooling rod and cut it down to 12mm for the job. Lathe wasn't used, only the mill :)

Post up a photo of your R8 adaptor. Safety first! (having a three pound fly cutter attached to a loose adaptor is not a good thing!)

He also likes log in handles that include your name and also make sure that you put your location in your profile.

A great source of information, and I kinda wish pirate was more like it.

Hmmm...a machinist with tight tolerances? No pun intended, i'm sure! :flipoff2:

oof! Sorry! :D

I didn't mean it like that, just that it's so easy to get good technical answers on there.
