I am currently repairing some damage from my wife's wreck in my truck. She rear ended a mustang and broke most of the front trim. I want to get rid of the chrome on the grill and headlight bezels...... Is there a way to paint them(black) that won't look like crap?

I have a '95 Bronco (full size) xlt
The donor truck for all parts being replaced is a '92 xlt

Paint em with Krylon Fusion. I did the same thing on my 88, and with proper prep work, the paint doesnt come off, even when you smash the lens wheelin.

What is the right prep work? This is my first attempt at any body work. So far it has been going pretty well. I have all the busted parts off and going to be tearing all the good parts off the donor truck tomorrow. I have one dent to try and pull on the driver's fender which was pushed back behind the driver's door. I have already pulled the fender back into place. I appreciate the help.

All i did was take some scotch brite to scuff the plastic up, and then wiped it down with alcohol to clean it up real good. Then just masked off, and applied several light coats, as the Fusion paints are pretty thin, and will run if youre not careful.

Wrong body style, but here is what i did

Look at it up close, and you wouldve sworn it came from Ford like that.

Thanks. I figured that was the way to go(scuffing) but have been told that it will not come out looking right. Yours looks real good! I am going to go get a few cans of that fusion and practice on the busted grill. I appreciate the help. I will try and get some pictures after it is done.

i would try to get all the chrome off if you can, its slick stuff and paint dosnt like to stick to it. id try sanding with a coarse grit around 80-120 and work your way up after you get the chrome off. finishing with wet sanding. i painted my grill in my superduty and it blew off in some spots with the pressure washer, i wet sanded with 400 and shot it with a gun with dupont emron though

edit- or get a grill from a XL work truck model that comes grey with no paint or chrome
