I have a 89 s blazer that has a dying 700r4, My neighbor has a 4L60E we just took outta his 2wd fullsize (did a sas and gave it a transfer case!), I was curious what all it would take to make the 4L60 work in my blazer, I am a tranny moron, I do belief that it will bolt up, but its computer controlled, so what would a guy have to do? I run a 4.3 with a 231 transfer case, can I swap the back of the 700r4 to the 4L60 and get my transfer case on the back of it?

I am pretty sure you will need a stand alone computer to make it work. JET is one place that has them. Plus you would have to get the correct output shaft. The one from yours should work. But if you are tearing it down for the output shaft, why not rebuild what you have.

You will either need the factory PCM or a stand alone computer setup. JET, TCI, etc... make them for the Electronic GM trannies. As for swapping the output shafts, yes they should be interchangable. Never done it myself, but have seen both apart.
BTW, you probably already know, the 4L60E is basically as strong as the 700R4 you are taking out.
