How do I disassemble/remove the barrel/gas tube from whats left of the cut up receiver? I'm on FAL Files but i need a damn manual or something to figure this out. Trying to get all the parts ready to assemble when I get my receiver from pete.
If there is a simple instructions link or something that would be awesome!
oh and WTF is barrel timing?

If you have a barrel vice and receiver wrench, it should be as simple as unscrewing it. The barrel is threaded in with RH threads. There will not be a pin.
To get mine out, I cut a slit on the left-hand side of the receiver, right where the cocking handle would be found. Once a slit was cut completely through the receiver, the barrel could easily be unscrewed from the stub with no damage to the threads.
Barrel timing refers to the barrel's location when it "bottoms out" against your receiver. Basically, put a mark on the TDC of your barrel at the breech end. When you screw it into your receiver, notice where your TDC mark falls once the barrel makes contact with the receiver while being threaded in. That mark should fall at the 10:30-11:00 o'clock position. Once that is achieved, you will want to use a receiver wrench and vice to apply torque to the receiver to get the barrel's TDC mark to the 12 o'clock position.
Some barrels will time out at the 8:00-9:00 o'clock position, and will require some filing to get them to "time" correctly. Other barrels tend to "time" at 12:00 o'clock, and require shims.
Edit: there's at least one FAL build thread on this site--mine--although, I did not go into much detail regarding timing. I wish I had taken some detailed pics of my barrel when it timed, and compared them to some of the other barrels that we built.

ok, guess ill need to pick up some actual gun tools for this one. Been able to do my ak's and AR's with general tools so far
Theres an old timing mark on the original receiver too. maybe i can use it for reference with the new one.

I used Pete's thread on FAL building and it worked really well to explain everything.

there is no "mark". you use the gas tube indent on the top of the barrel as the mark. when the indent lines up on the left side (when facing it) of the gas nut hole on the new receiver when HAND TIGHT it should form a "triangle" of sorts. That means when cranked the fuck down and centered it will be the right torque/timing.

there is no "mark".
I'll have to post a picture of the weird little mark on the old receiver and the barrel then. It appears to be an alignment mark of some kind. I am by no means disagreeing with you. This thing is just interesting to me.
Thanks for all the help guys. Now I just gotta get that receiver from Pete.

Sitting in a box all set to send as soon as you want it ;)
Regarding the mark. I have seen it on some. Looks kinda like a center punch?

It could be a witness mark placed after the barrel was installed to determine if it ever started to move. I placed one on my barrel after seating it.

Thanks :D
You know I don't think I ever finished that thread, showed how to demill the kit, but not assemble.

You'll be sending it soon hopefully!
Yep, looks like a center punch on the bottom of the barrel aligned with an identical mark on the receiver.
And your build thread is great! Don't know how I missed it in my search but...
