: Odd ball ford. Help ID...
MR4WD 08-16-2002, 01:28 PM My friend has an 82 Ford F-250. He's always said it's a 1 ton, and I've argued that no it's not, but upon closer inspection it may be.
It's got a Dana 44 twin traction beam up front, with dana 60 hubs, spindles and rotors. Rear, is a Dana 70. 4.10 ratio, came with a 351 windor, C6 and 205. Regular cab long box truck with a factory 4" block and 4" suspension drop up front. He fits 33x12.50's with no rubbing on 16.5x9.75 wheels and he's had the truck since about 88... It's also got a mondo rear leaf pack and super huge thick frame.....
If I give you guys the V.I.N., is there a place to cross reference it and see what this abortion of a truck had to begin with? It was an ex mining truck... So it could be something like a central office production order sorta thing... A 1 off testing deal... I've seen tons of those up here, but none of them ever make it to the public...
Anybody know what this truck is?
Check the Vin, If it is like the '79 and older ones the first 3 digits will read F26 for F-250 4x4 and F36 for F-350 4x4. In 1982 there was no solid front axle for the Fords. F-350 came with a TTB Dana-50 front end. F-250's came with either Dana-44 or 50 TTB depending on GVW.

MR4WD 08-16-2002, 02:53 PM So, in which case it's most likely a Dana 50 then? I hadn't realized there was such a thing as a Dana 50 TTB. More than likely, that's what it is...
AZFord4x4 08-16-2002, 04:43 PM don't quote me for sure on this, but I thought that 80-85 or 86 was all TTB44 in the fronts. The D50TTB didn't come out until 85-86... I'm not 100% on this, maybe someone else knows for sure.

yea, you very well could be right... if it's not 77.5-79 F250, I have rough knowledge, but that 2.5 years of F250s is what I really know best.
smurfsdad 08-16-2002, 06:21 PM The Test Fords at the mines around Elko had This for a VIN #

Its a HD F250, well sorta.. Dealer option. Tows like a 350, and might have come with a snow plow at some time :):) Its has a dana 50 front TTB and Dana 61 in the rear with 31 spline shafts. Yes, a 61. Not a typo.. Its big, beefy and has shit for flex. A must have for towing anything under 10,000 lbs Hehe

Good, then what size fusable link do I use in mine? And, did any of the 78-79's come with a divorced 205? I wand to go from my 435/205 to a C6 and if I can bolt up a divorced 205 I've already got a C6 that will work.
God I love this list...:D

They went away from the divorced in 77.5. If you have dual tanks the divorced 205 won't work. The front tank interferes with the t/c.
Where is the fusable link? I can look in my parts 79 and see what size it has?

FearMe 08-18-2002, 11:03 AM I've just got the single rear tank so it might work. I think the F/L is a 16 ga but I'm not sure, it burned up :D It's got some wiring 'issues' I need to straighten out.
