My friend has an 82 Ford F-250. He's always said it's a 1 ton, and I've argued that no it's not, but upon closer inspection it may be.

It's got a Dana 44 twin traction beam up front, with dana 60 hubs, spindles and rotors. Rear, is a Dana 70. 4.10 ratio, came with a 351 windor, C6 and 205. Regular cab long box truck with a factory 4" block and 4" suspension drop up front. He fits 33x12.50's with no rubbing on 16.5x9.75 wheels and he's had the truck since about 88... It's also got a mondo rear leaf pack and super huge thick frame.....

If I give you guys the V.I.N., is there a place to cross reference it and see what this abortion of a truck had to begin with? It was an ex mining truck... So it could be something like a central office production order sorta thing... A 1 off testing deal... I've seen tons of those up here, but none of them ever make it to the public...

Anybody know what this truck is?

Front sounds like a TTB Dana 50, but as far as a 1 ton?? I know there are a few "heavy halfs" running around pretending to be 3/4 tons, so maybe there are "heavy 3/4s":D

Its a 1-ton, ford used what now is a Dana 50 as there 1-ton frontends til 85 and then is 86 the Dana 50 became there 3/4ton frontend and they used D60 for the 1-tons. So basically a 95 3/4ton for example is the same as his 1-ton, except for the springs.

My best guess is either a swap to 1 ton rear axle and springs, or a special order by someone big enough to get noticed.

Ford has always done some oddball F-250's:
I has a 79 "Ranger" F-250 that had a D-60 front and Rear and a bigblock.

It was a special option. They also have camper specials and the like. F-350's with F-250 badges.

I wouldn't call anything with a TTB front, a 1 ton. Having a 60 front, in my opinion, makes it a 1 ton.
I have seen mid 70's crewcabs with 60 fronts and F250 badges (factory). On the other hand my 77 2wd F150 has a 460 (factory). Go figure, Ford definetly did some strange stuff.
