Does any one here have any input as far as safety and so on with towing an SOA Jeep (I have a CJ-5 thinking of going soa) through the mountains and so on??? Is it stable, is it safe??? Any more questions or comments are very much requested.

i flat tow my 4 inch lift spring soa jeep all the time, never had a problem, im on fullwidth axles though if that matters. it has no track bars or sway bars

I preferr to trailer my YJ with SOA, but I have flat towed it thousands of miles over the last few years. I have towed it both behind my F250 and behind the motorhome, it takes a little getting used to pulling it behind the MH on winding roads or in high winds. Behind the truck its a piece of cake. The biggest disadvantage to towing instead of trailering, is the lack of additional brakes on the trailer. They make kits that use the towed vehicles brakes, but they are a little expensive.

yjtj - where are your tow bar mounts, are they on the shackles or bumper? I got mine SOA'd w/ 2.5" springs and it was already scary flat towing it without the SOA (w/ a 95 Disco). The shackle mounts are a lot better than a bumper, I noticed a huge difference, but I'm not sure if I'll attempt that again with the soa unless I can get a full set of baby tires to lower it and keep the swampers from wearing

towbar mounts are on the bumper outside the frame rails. so i actually have my mounts wider than you do, not sure if that matters

a freind flat tows his SOA yj everywhere behind his suburban.You can tell its there but its not to bad.

A wider towing attachment will prove to be more stable. Theoretically they should be as wide as possible. Oh the things you learn in physics class with a cool teacher <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Flat tow my 91 YJ SOA on 2.5" Skyjackers with a '99 5.2L Dakota 4x4. I've got the shackle mount tow bar. No problems so far. I keep a close eye on the spring hangers though.

I FLAT TOW MY CJ2A WITH A SOA AND A REVERSE SHACKLE. NO PROBLEM. IF THE VEHICLE MOVES AROUND A LITTLE, CHECK THE TOEIN.

As long as you have some caster.

I have heard of some that have had some trouble, but used Scout axles with 0 deg caster. It does not track well. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Make sure you disconnect your drive shaft or your D300 is toast... no oil to the rear output bearing..
