Is it possible to swap the planetarys from a NP 241 to a NP 208... for the 0.1 lower ratio, don't feel like digging in the fourth transfer case just to know it doesn't fit :D
I'm building a fixed yoke NP208 from a Chevy NP 208 and a Dodge 208, and I somehow have the 241 lying around...
and yeah... talking about planetarys. Isn't a 6 planetary stronger then a 4?? Then how comes a S10 Blazer 231 has 6 planetarys but a Dodge Ram Cummins has only 4:eek:

you could try.. i just doubt it would work. the sun gear is smaller in one, and probably has a different register diameter inside the case. the teeth on the planets wont even fit, if I remember correctly. but, hey, give it a shot. its only nuts and bolts and wasted time.

Fixed yoke 241 would be better

They wont interchange they are completely different. I would use a 241dodge with a bolt yolk, a GM input and make a clocking ring to get it to fit.

You can try it if you want but it wont work. I rebuild these t-cases for a living so I know that they are not interchangable.

OK thanks... but since you are rebuilding them for a living... do you put the rollers inside the sprocket back in or do you just leave them out. And are there any common problems with the 208's? :D
The chevy case I have has bad bearings and I noticed it has gear oil in it but not ATF... which might be the cause for the bearings going bad or what?

Put the needle brgs. back in the sprocket. As you found out the bearings are the most comon thing to go bad. Fluid type, level, and cleanliness are important for the 208s needle and thrust brgs. The only reason I recomended a 241 over the 208 is the planetary and case are a little stronger and the slightly lower low range gear.
