Ok so here's what I got. I've got a dana 70 a buddy sold me for 70 bucks. It was so cheap I couldn't pass it up. I got it home and opened it up hoping to see those beautiful 35 spline shafts but to my dismay they were 30 spline. Now my question. Could I just swap some 35 spline shafts out of another dana 70 into mine? Thanks.

Possibly , the spindles may not be drilled out large enough to clear 35 spline axles , about 1.5 inches , I think. This would require machine work from a machine shop , not a garage floor job.
If the spindles a drilled correctly ,then:
You will have to find an exact copy with 35 splines ,width ,chunk centered exactly the same ,which may or may not be easy or have axles made.
You will need the bop off the axle housing to identify it , to match it inthe juck yard or order shafts.
One of the cool things I've found with these axles is , they can be found as narrow as 63" and lots around 65" or as wide as 72" from duellies.

I'd like to hear more about this topic. I'm in the same situation.
I swear I read somewhere that the 35 spline shafts were phased in gradually and now that's the standard. If that's the case, can I just buy them?
I've been searching my local yard for a while now and found zip.
Would Ford have them at a REASONABLE price?

You need to check The Dana expert site. You will be able to compare length, dia. and so forth.

Never heard of that site. I'll try to find it. Is the name "The Dana Expert" or what? Thanks in advance.
By the way. I've got a D60 with the large bore spindles. 1.5" shafts will fit just nicely. I'm trying to find a factory (junkyard) set of 35 splines. I'm hunting a 35" pass side shaft and a 37 5/8" drivers side shaft. If anyone happens to be running those particular lenghts you could save me a lot of trouble. I'm off to search!!!!

There were many version of the D70 over the years, including some coarse spline stuff. You need to find out which you have & go from there. Then, like was stated above, you need to have hubs/shafts/diff all match. If you do not want to use that axle, it would be easier & cheaper to find the axle you want than to change that one. I paid $125 for a working D70HD.
