I got out of R/Cs back in the late 90's... the RC10T had pretty much just came out when I stopped paying attention and the first brushless motor had just hit the scene.
Seems like junk has gotten a lot cheaper since then? I don't remember being able to buy ESC's for under a hundred bucks! (thats why I went back to the mechanical when mine fried!!)
Anyways. My last car was a Kyosho Tracker electric (don't laugh too hard!!) that I beat the hell out of. I also have a Kyosho F1 that I modded a little bit, would do well over 50mph. (specs elude me right now)
So I kinda want to get a crawler.. But I don't wanna be stuck going slow all the time. Any of them out there do speed decent? Jumps and junk? I also have a 4 year old boy I'm sure will want to bash it around too in time.
I have a 2 channel radio I'd be reusing, and a bunch of old battery packs I hope still hold a charge.. So I'm really just looking for a kit. I'd jump all over a RC10T (my dream truck I couldn't afford back then) but a crawler looks like fun!
Also.. rc10t4? 4th version? damn.

You're looking for something like the axial-10 RTR or ARTR with a low turn motor.
The RTR is capable of enough speed to keep a kid entertained, but is almost slow enough to crawl (has a 27 turn motor and 2 spur gears to choose from.
The ARTR is possibly more what you're after. You get to choose all the performance components. You get to use your radio. You can make it as fast or slow as you choose. You get to choose the ESC (buy one with a drag brake)<--If you aren't sure what would be a good one, look for a recent thread by me called "RC electrinics?"
Check this out

These things are kindof pointless for speed and jumps. They're just not set up for it. Slow and steady with the ability of wheel speed is the name of the game here. They can be set up for bashing I guess, but don't be hoping for too much speed.
Having said that, they are an ass load of fun if you have the right terrain around. (check Utube - pretty good demonstrations of it)
You'd probably be better off with a stadium truck for regular bashing. There are some decent 4x4 race trucks and monster trucks out there that would make for allot of general off-roading fun.
I'm in the same boat as you. Prior to the axial, the RC-10 gold pan buggy was the last RC I bought. These axials are a boat load of fun.

Whats the deal with all the damnded RTR's?? Most of the fun in R/C's used to be in building it! edit: I see you can get it in kit form. I'm gunna have to look into these more.
So what is a good reseller nowadays? I've used Tower Hobby in the past but I know they're pretty over priced.

I don't know of an online source. I usually go local.
I know what you mean about the RTR's.
I'd rather build it myself also. I've just about fallen in love with the Traxxas Slayer. But the only way to get it is an RTR.
With a crawler it isn't that big of a deal. One way or the other you will have built it once it is up to snuff.
The way I see it an RTR or ARTR is cool as a gift because it has that "out of the box" appeal (meaning that you can play with it now).
Play with it now, then modify it to suit your needs. In short order it will be a rig that you built. I would however start with the option that has most of the pieces that you will keep.
I'm with you though - I like to build them.

We offer the axial Almost Ready Run Crawler in which you can pick your motor speed control and numerous other options. It also comes out of the box with all of the upgraded aluminum parts. Give us a call next week if you have any questions.

IMHO, whenever possible, you should always support your local hobby shop in this stuff.. the price isn't that much more usually, and it keeps them in business. Just my opinion :)
And yes, I know this thread is about a month old. :flipoff2:
