I bought a 14 bolt ff in good condition off a 78 3/4 ton truck ...its got 4.10 gears in it. Now that I'm venturing into uncharted territory I may need some advise..... the guy wants $150 for the front axle but its just a 10 bolt like the one i have... it does have 8 lug outers and 4.10 gears ...I may get it but i have no clue how the steering is gonna line up with mine ...I have a Skyjacker 4" lift with a new steering arm....with my setup right now the steering sits pretty level...and not sure how these brakes are going to match up either

anyone who can add their 2 cents would be apreciated :D

The rear will bolt right in no problems. I would get the front then you have 8 lug and the matching 4.10, all new 4.10 gears cost 150$ for your front plus install and you would still need 8 lug, more $$. The front should be bolt in also unless the owner changed anything on it. The brakes will be fine the stock master cylinder will work even when doing a rear disc swap. Hope this helps. I'm still looking for my front got the rear with disc's if I could find one for 150$ I would get it.

Do you have a 44 front now?

'cause if you do, you can put the spindles and 8 lug hubs on the 44's outer knuckles and keep the 30 spline 44 inners that way.

Also, a 10 bolt shouldn't have a passenger flat top.

If you're luck you'll have flat tops on the 8 lug front. If you do choose to do x-over steering you will have to modify x-member under front of motor so your draglink won't hit it (need at least 6in. lift). The secret to getting those cones loose are a can of PB Blaster & a BFH (Big *uckn Hammer).

Jesse at High Angle Driveline is great to do business with and his prices varies depending on what kinda "stuff" you choose to have done. He should be your only choice for d-shafts......

Get the matching front axle, $150 for a complete 8-lug front is cheap. Everything will bolt in, you steering arm will transfer over, if you're really worried about getting the old arms off, just swap your knuckle with steering arm attached for the one on the 3/4 ton axle. If you want to do crossover steering, find knuckles off a '75 and earlier Dana 44 front, and swap those on.
