Is there some ancient secret to removing this thing? I have the intermediate shaft out, and the forward drive gear removed, but I cannot get the main shaft out. The rear bearing is out, but I just cant seem to move the 2-4 slider far enough forward to get the fork out.

Thx,

unbolt the rear output shaft housing and remove them together. Then either press the shaft out or drive it out with a brass drift. The speedo drive gear is a press fit on the output shaft and is keeping it from just sliding out. Once the shaft is out, you will also need to press or otherwise remove the bearing.

Whoops, I guess I was kinda tired last night.
This is what I'm up against now. :(

There is a c-clip that needs to be pulled, then the gears will let the shaft slide out. You should also pull the rear bearing race to ease the removal process.

Is that C-clip between the (rear) large coarse gear and the smaller (forward) helical gear?

I figure that I can have this case built with the 2.46 gearset, and sometime later (When I inherit an extra chunk of change) get the 3.15 gears. The SM420 is next on my list of crap to rebuild. Fortunately I have a source for parts this time. :p
