my clutch peddle was just a bout at the same height as my brake peddle to start. then during a wheeling session i noticed its resting height was about 1.25" below the brake peddle, and the point that engaged the clutch was a lot closer to the floor then before. the hydraulic fluid for the clutch was where it should be and no sign of a leak or anything. changing gears felt the same as well. i figure its the clutch, the hydro throwout bearing, master cylinder, or any combination of those 3 are goin out.
is it worth hunting down one thing, or should i park her and wait till i can replace everything?
or any other ideas
im also assuming it has the factory clutch in it. im the third owner, it has 70k miles, and no service stickers about the clutch.

i never have once looked to see how my clutch pedal compared to my brake pedal:flipoff2:
if the clutch works fine then WTF except for the fact that it engages/disengages at a lower depressed position of the pedal. this may be a sign of the master and/or slave going south.
do you have an external slave?

negative its internal at the throwout bearing. and im not 100% on where the clutch peddle sat in the first place, but i'm 100% sure it changed in a 1 hour time from.
im still goin to drive it but i dont want to be in one of those situations where im far from a road and it goes south. cuz s*** always breaks at the worst imaginable time.

What type of wheelin were you doin? Slow climbing where you were riding the clutch? Smell anything funny at the time? You probably would have noticed if you burnt the clutch. I would say drive it till it falls or you can replace the clutch. Just wheel with another vehicle in case it fails. Hell, that's a good idea anyway!

it was crawlin up narrow roads with big ruts, but it had a couple inches of slow melt away so pretty muddy. but i never smelled anything funny and im usually pretty good about noticing that kinda stuff.
the more i look into it it sounds like the the hydraulic concentric bearing assembly, so if im goin to replace that i might as well have a clutch at hand in case that looks worn while im in there.
plus ive always wanted to learn how to install a new clutch, itll be fun

yes, if pulling the t-case/tranny to replace the slave/throwout bearing............then just go buy a clutch "kit" made by LUK (pep boys et al sells them) and replace the clutch disc, pressure plate and pilot bearing/bushing while you are at it!

so i got the kit, the tranny jack, removed drive shafts, crossmember, linkage, wiring, blah blah blah. i got the jack in place all the tranny bolts out but i cant get the tranny to slide away from the engine! any pointers

did you get the top two bolts? they are like 10mm "star" headed bastards. real hard to get to. if you got them just make sure you got all the other bolts. then just wiggle the bitch out from the engine. the splined input shaft has to pull out of the clutch disc-------------straight out. you may have to lower or raise the tranny to get the right angle. i gave up using those "tranny jacks" and just bear-hug the bitch. i also take the t-case off first to lighten the load.
