: Need help, waggy springs are in but...

Ok, I got the waggy springs in the rear of the YJ last night but I ran into one problem.

The waggy springs have a different style bushing than the YJ springs and that has left a small space on each side of the shackle and spring hanger and the spring. I dont want the springs flopping around so I was thinking I'd just put a few washers between the spring and the shackle/hanger. Is that okay to do? This is my DD, if that matters.

Also the stock shackles are sitting at about a 45* angle but since they are stock they are short. They are about 1.5" away from contacting the bottom of the frame rail. When I bounce on the rear of the Jeep they hit. So my question would be... how much longer a shackle should I go with.

I know these are newbie type questions, but I am a newbie. :flipoff2: Can you even imagine the responces I'd get over at JU??

Thanks for the help.

how much lift did u get? spring over or spring under?

and as for the washers u can do that, but how much space is it, i wouldn;t stack 4 washers together. i would get some solid round stock the thickness u need and drill a hole in the middle.

Thanks for the input on the washers... Its not much space at all, and I figured it would be cool I just wanted a second opinion. I just used 2 small washers on each side of the spring.

As for the specs on the springs...

Its just like everyone here said they would be. Factory 7 leaf HD Waggy's are about the same height as 2" YJ lift springs. I am SOA with 2" BDS's up front and now I have the HD Waggy's in the rear in place of the 2" BDS's. THe thing sits pretty level. I am gonna go with the Waggy's in the front, but that'll have to wait till next month.

Later.

I think your best bet would be to purchase new bushings, my 44044's came with the bushings with the thinner sides, I used daystar shackle bushing kit, they are wider between the spring and the spring hanger.

Right, you might try to find some aftermarket flanged bushings. Be sure and measure the ID and bolt hole size.

You guys have obviously never tried to remove the stock bushings on Waggy springs. Some of them are nearly impossible to remove. I have tried pressing them out with a 40 ton press with no luck. I have drilled them out with hole saws, I have evne burned them out. In most cases they are more work than engine swap, and they will easily outlast the life of the springs. Unless you have to much free time on your hands, or you are sadistic about the projects you choose, I would throw a couple of thick washers on each side, and forget about it.

The washer should be fine.

The 44044s I have came with a thick and thin bushing. I put the thin on the fram and the thick on the shackle, worked well. The large bushing from a YJ bushing kit (or aftermarket spring) will be a little wider and fit so that's another option.

My shackles are 5.75" center hole to center hole. That's 1.75 " longer than stock. Shackles sit at about 15 degree angle and it works well.

If you want to replace the small bushing, use a piece of 1 inch ID .122 wall DOM tubing. Press it into the leaf spring then use any aftermarket YJ replacement bushing. This solves the problem of the width and gives you more choices to find the bushings.

Hell yeah there's just gonna break, be swapped out, or go flat soon anyhow why spend the time.
