: i need a source for a cummins 4bt...
SkaerE 08-17-2002, 01:18 PM what did they originally come in? not dodge trucks, heard of some in UPS trucks.
where does anyone think i could find one? (or at least a place to start looking)
and yes, i searched...didnt find anything here though...
thanks
gunracer1 08-17-2002, 01:32 PM the only place i have found them is in 1 ton step vans, that are bread deliver trucks aroud here. every one i have seen has has a sm 465 behind it. but beware they vibrate like hell and are noisy. i don't think they would be much fun on the trail. as in they are loud enough that your spotter has to yell for you to here anything. i was going to build up a 6 cyl cumins rig for the trail, but i finally decided that it was just to damn noisy.
mudtruck44 08-17-2002, 01:36 PM Farm equiptment, stuff like that.
desertCJ 08-17-2002, 01:49 PM 6 cyl cummins are damn heavy! I wouldn't use one for a trail rig;)
SkaerE 08-17-2002, 01:55 PM awwww come on now, they're only about 900 lbs :)
Grndhog 08-17-2002, 03:38 PM Not sure but isn`t the 4B just under 500LB ? I haven`t seen any where on this end of VA to pick one up. Try to find a salvage yard that deals with big trucks and heavy equipment.
TERRA-IZER 08-17-2002, 03:44 PM 1 ton Step Vans, Like bread delivery vans. My buddies have just picked up 2 of them for the engines and trannies for less than $1700, one has a SM465 and the other a 435 behind them. Plus you get a good storage shed after your pull the drivetrain out of them.
gunracer1 08-17-2002, 03:54 PM a lot of the new bobcat style skid loaders have them in them also. i just had my head up my ass. and also in the case front end loader tractors and more than a few back hoe's.
Dan 0 08-17-2002, 08:19 PM up here we get hostes chip trucks in our shop that have these engines in them,on our computers they come up as a GM p3500.both have autos behind them and they move the piece of shit trucks along quite well. ;)

Thanks Geargrinder
dieselcruiserhead 08-21-2002, 04:52 PM Here's some picts of a bread truck with one in it. At first I couldn't find one anywhere but the more I started looking I found them all over the place. There's a junk yard north of Boston about 30 minutes that has about 5 of them for $1500 each, best deal I found. Too bad I can't remember the place!

let me know!!!
Oxjockey 08-21-2002, 05:41 PM FYI, there's a Cummins Conversions (http://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?forumid=30) forum on TDR (http://www.turbodieselregister.com).

dieselcruiserhead 08-22-2002, 12:38 PM I'll try but I've actually been looking for the link for a little while now - they do have a web site. I just sent an email to the guy who first forwarded me the link and we'll see what he says. Here's a neat link too for anyone interested in the conversion, something to whet the appetite :)

dieselcruiserhead 08-22-2002, 12:40 PM PS! If I find it finder's fee means when I buy one you might have to go check it out for me! I'd totally appreciate it!

road1will 08-22-2002, 12:58 PM cruiserhead-
would gladly check one out for you.
and by any chance, is this the place?
http://www.enginecom.com/cd.htm
dieselcruiserhead 08-22-2002, 01:54 PM Yup!
Check 'em out if you don't mind - I guess the trucks are all in a lot down the street and he gets them from him. I know how they ship they cut out the front section of the frame and send them that way. They are all mid-late 80s to early 90s models, with the Bosch VE rotary pump. Output is 107 hp and about 300 ft/lbs, but easily tweakable but you can't get the astounding figures a later Bosch P1700 inline pump can put out (over 700 ft/lbs!).
I'm looking for one with any sort of manual tranny versus an auto, I hear they come with SM465s or Getrag 4 speeds.
Good luck and thanks!
