: K5 Bent Axle
chris008 12-29-2008, 07:10 AM Purchased a 84 K5 Blazer a few months ago. I've noticed that the truck leans to the right. I've been told that my rear axle is bent and that this was common on Blazers. Is that true? or are they trying to get some money out of me. BTW i have installed all new shocks ans still have the same problem.
Also if the Axle is bent where can I look for a 12 bolt axle to replace my 10bolt...I'm new to this so I might not have the right wording....thanks for the help.

highly doubt its bent. i dont think the axle would even work. you probably either have a worn out bent or broken leaf spring or possibly the body is all messed up and leaning if its a old beater.
also dont worry about swaping to a 12 bolts its much rarer and not even stronger then a 10 bolt. post a picture of the truck if you got one
NetBSD 12-29-2008, 07:58 AM if you notice it leaning then the axle would have to be bent REAL bad. is this all stock or is it lifted? if its lifted chances are someone was lazxy and didnt level it out or used worn out springs. also as stated above if its stock and older the springs might just be sagging or the body is in ruff shape at the body mounts

x2, Look closely at the springs & the body mounts.

Thanks for the reply, I also doubted that my axle was bent. Overall the Truck is in good shape, I'll look at the leaf springs then.

The Blazer has a 4' lift with new BFGoodrich 33's. The Leaf Spring does look really old and I'm not sure about the Body Mounts age. To be honest I don't kow where these body mounts are. Where can I find them so I can look?
chris008 12-29-2008, 09:30 AM I'll post a picture of the Truck when i get home..thanks to all for your replies.
GMCTruxrule 12-29-2008, 12:25 PM You just have to love the automotive advice from stupid people.
If an axle was bent to the point that your truck leans hard to one side, it would be obvious beyond all doubt. You would look at the axle and see a smiley face looking back at you. It wouldn't even work.
What would make it even more evident is that one of the tires (if not both) would be sitting all cock-eyed, rims staring at the sky.
I would look at bent or severly worn springs.
chris008 12-29-2008, 04:23 PM The 1st pic is the passenger side which is lower than the drivers side. The passenger side measures 8.75 inches from the bottom of the fender to the top of the tire. The drivers side measures 10.25 inches from the bottom of the fender to the top of the tire.
I will attach additional views...thanks

it might just be the angle the pic was taken but it almost looks like the body is sagging and not the suspension in these 2 pics. when looking in the wheel wells look at the frame to body clearance and see if its different on each side or the same

abig84 12-29-2008, 05:48 PM try getting it on level ground and measure the distance between the leaf and the frame. i had a daily driver that had a broken rear spring. so i only replaced one and it was leaning a hair to the old side, but could care less.... about 8 months later broke that spring and replaced it with a new one.
springs are pretty cheep, can get stock ones with all the u-bolts and parts for a bit under 300 bucks...
also if your going to replace the rear springs, maybe get rid of the blocks and get lift springs
