Hi all ,
here is the mother of all rear ends seeing service under my v8 60.

Its From a Nissan GQ Patrol, 1990.
Strength wise its like comparing hilux to cruiser stuff, oh and best of all no studs to break.
Uni's are also bigger then criuser ones.(not that i have ever broken a 60 uni before).

it looks like, you kept the cruiser front diff?
why keep it if nissans are so much better?

the unis are bigger which ones?
in the driveshaft?

what sort of transfer case are you running?

also....
nice to see you converted up to discs at least
whats that weird looking pipe thing across the top?
and whyd you convert it back to leafs?

in my opinion, the only things you really gained are:
rear discs
maybe some width? (how much if any?)
bigger tailshaft unis (and who breaks them much even minis have smaller ones and dont break?)

they arent full floating hubs either

stuff all choice in ratios, if you do find alternate ratios expect to pay big bucks.

Doesnt seem too good a move to me unless you got it really cheap/free

landcruiser rear ends dont give much trouble anyway

good points, some minor width gains, at the most of 2-4 inches, im thinking its not much at all, swapping, the transfer
thats a fixed yoke NP208?? ;)
then converting all the brackets and stuff
limited parts and aftermarket availability, harder to work on...
if it was cheap/free and had locker....why not......

cruiser rears with FF are the BOMB

Does Nissan Patrol GQ/GU have full floater rear axels?

hey newbie...this was answered TWICE in this very thread :flipoff2:

but nope...no full float rear

admittedly they are pretty strong.....as strong/stronger than a cruiser?

depends who you ask, IIRC the GU axles are bigger than GQ and therefore would provide significant strength increases

Okey another Patrol GU newbie question...how do you know if it has 1.31" or 1.35" axel shafts?

1.31" in the front and 1.35" in the back

cause ive measured, this is another reason i think the strength gains are minimal...

1.35" also increases on the rear, it gets bigger and bigger again.....but IMO there is no point to that, as they all break at the neck down to the splines...

having a think about this...and a discussion last night

im pretty sure, some "leaf sprung mining GQ and GU utilities ONLY" had a rear full float, but the diff, axles, brakes and everything was totally different, rare and hard to get parts for.....
