More details to come to those that are interested!

Get a tailshaft out of a dodge or ford from the auto wreckers... And use real off the shelf parts. And it prolly won't spray oil under neath your cab either.

Is this supposed to be stronger than the stock slip yoke?

I actually was looking here for info for a friend looking for a SYE for his 73k5 with 82 dtrain. We did 6" Tuff country springs and raised the drivetrain about 5.5" to create a flat belly and it has worked out great 'sept for the frickin rear shaft angle. We need to shorten the 208 and thus add some drifeshaft length. Your SYE did not shorten the case any right? does anyone know how to do that?

You could use the rear output shaft and tailhousing from a Dodge which isonly 6.25 inches from tailhousing mounting surface to the center of the U-Joint.. you can use the rear yoke from a 205 to get bigger u-joint.

i second that on the rear dodge out-put and rear case half on the chevy 208 just did one , worked out fine funny thing the rear of the dodge works on the chevy, but the rear of the chevy one will not work on the dodge!

What did you do about the socket for the shift rod? I tried to use a dodge rear case half and found that there was no support hole for the shifting fork rod.

I researched this and found the dodge has 6 different rear housings and nothing is made new anymore- we have a kik ass slip yoke c/v one ton rated you will not break it! Jess:D

the case i used had the support hole. as i said it worked fine .the 208 has worked good for us off road also the reduction is great . my main two concerns, are drive shaft angle and suport , and fluid loss with no rear shaft , made a clocking ring and rotated it also working good!! this dodge case i used out of 1985 model

hi dbricco........

The conversion is pretty straight forward really......

The output flange is from a Jag xjs with a TH400 35spl with an adaptor plate to suit it and the Nissan shaft its mated to.
Only tricky part of the conversion is drilling the output shaft to 1/2" to accept the retaining bolt, and this is done by heating the centering hole already conveniently provided by the factory to a cherry red colour with a torch and allowed to cool for several hours till coldish. The idea here is to remove the case hardening which is about 2mm/80th thick, just from the end of the shaft so it can be drilled and tapped, i started with a 1/4" masonary bit and worked up to 1/2" only needing to drill the still reasonably hard shaft a couple of mm each stage.
Forget about using anything but tungsten drill bits on this stuff as its still about 40 rockwell hard and best done in a lathe for best results.
Once your drilled and tapped, all thats left is to weld the retaining washer to the yoke to prevent any slip and bolt it on.:D

Does anyone know anything about the Jeep 208's? I know they used them in the fullsize Jeeps for sometime in the 80's, but are they a passenger side drop or not. If they are is it possible to use they on the back half of the Chevy case like the dodge. Its a real bummer that there isn't more aftermarket stuff availible for the 208. I think its really a good case considering is chain driven.

SO, who has the lowdown on changing the NP241 to a fixed output?

I was told that the slip joint output can be swapped out for a fixed output setup by swapping the shaft and rear case half form some other Tcase.....but, I don't know what Tcase......

Anyone have that info?

I believe that would also be a DODGE back half

So I need the rear half of a Dodge NP241 to bolt to my Chevy NP241?

Then I'm ready for u-joints? cool, thanks for the info...I know where I can get the part for free.....:D

No you got it mixe up there. You use the back half of a dodge case if doing a 208. The dodge 241 is a slip yoke style as far as I know. To put a fixed yoke on the 241 you can call a Company by the name of JB Convetions. They'll have a new mainshaft and a tail housing for you. Costs somewhere around $300 though. There # is 318-625-2379. I've done one of there 231 kits on a Jeep before, and I like there stuff.

Does anyone know if u can use a Jeep 208 (drivers side front output) in back of a Chevy tranny (TH350 or 700R4) by simply changing to the Chevy 208 input gear????? I want to use a Jeep 208 I have behind one of those, without the huge expense of the new mainshaft and adapter route.
