I like it! It would be cool if he had stained it a nice dark walnut and finished it with spar urethane. Why hide the natural beauty of wood?

Who cares? It works for him

We can't say that here! Can we? Uhhhh, I mean, right on!

Functionally, there's nothing wrong with it. Remember back when tow trucks used to push start cars, back when cars had real bumpers, back when a driver could understand simple instructions given by the tow truck operator, back when they wouldn't get their asses sued off if something went wrong? Remember what the bumpers were made of?:shaking:

Have you checked out his aluminium tube sliders?

I found this on that innernet thang, so it must be true:

Douglas Fir, or similar construction wood has a tensile
strength of 87MPa (12.6KSI) in the X direction (lenght) but only
2MPa (290PSI) in the Y direction (width) Stainless steel has
a tensile strength of 860MPa (125KSI) in either direction.

For a typical 2x4 wood (cross sectional area of 8 sq. in)
and stainless steel plate of 4x0.04 (18 guage steel plate),
Wood has a cross sectional area of 12 times of steel.

So, steel has 80 percent of tensile strength of wood
in the X direction, but 30 times in the Y direction.

I've seen a few nice rovers up in Tahoe during the summer (I live in Reno). My friend Steve lives up there, I'm sure you know him if you're up there often. He drives a green with white top 110 300Tdi. He's in South America right now. You up there a lot? Nice boat too!

The motor is a '59. I only know that because it's got a "50th anniversary" badge on it and Evinrude was started in 1909. Had decals made and repainted it a few years ago.

I'm told the boat is a '57 but it could be a '59 too. Not much information about this old boat out there.

I have a client with a Century with a Chrysler hemi. Sadly, I am the only person he's found who is familiar with the engines and willing to work on it.

I had an old 354 hemi in the garage of my rental house and always fantasized about putting it in a boat and here is a guy with one that came that way from the factory!

Is that "had" or "have" ?

If you "have" a 354 and ever feel like parting with it, a local friend of mine might be interested for powering his nostalgia dragster...

My first boat had a 392 in it. It was a 18' 1965 Rayson Craft V-drive. Dual AFBs on a tunnel ram , solid roller cam and a straight box ( no neutral, start in gear) She was call "Hemiroid"

Had, but long story short, the guy who bought the house got busted selling drugs and has apparently lost the house.

But, I know where there is another one with my name on it, this one's a 392 ou of a '53 NY DLX.

Nah.... I grew up around Unlimited Hydroplanes. Most of them nowadays suck.... they sound like giant hairdryers(the Unlimited class uses turbine engines). The old boats used Allison and Rolls Royce V12s. I've become more interested in the smaller classes lately. My old man buys vintage boats and restores them. The one from the pic is his second.

i inheritted my grandparents old barrel back. Been sitting in a barn in ME since the late 70s. I have just been too lazy to go and pick it up and haul it back here. Plus the fact it needs a complete rebuild.
