FJ4ZROX 10-04-2001, 07:18 AM Nice looking tube work. Let's hear what's going in for a drivetrain.
dirtrod 10-04-2001, 08:06 AM That's a ton of nice tube work, I hope you are gonna give it some serious horsepower.
Brawler 10-04-2001, 08:27 AM It was built by the gentleman in the blue shirt. Eric @Fat City. The rig is a Bronco and is being built for a customer who is on this board. Reynolds. The engine i believe is a 351 bored & stroked to a 426. Something like 450 horse 500 torque. Atlas t-case and custom portal axles as you can see. Hopefully Reynolds will post some better more acurate specs.
BabyWrangle 10-04-2001, 09:10 AM Holy tube benders and blue paint batman!!! <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">
Grandpa Jeep 10-04-2001, 12:17 PM Those axles are cool! How did you make them portal? Are they gear drive or some sort of chain drive? They look to be Ford 9". Is that what they are?
Gordon 10-04-2001, 01:36 PM They are upside down 9 inches with unimog outers built by CTM I believe.
Bro John's creation is truly the most exotic frame and axles I've ever seen. I can hardly wait for the maiden voyage. I'm just worried about the de-bugging cycle. I hope it's not too protracted and ends before the WRCC begins.
regards, as always, jefe
JReynolds Inc. 10-05-2001, 12:10 AM Eric's working feverishly to meet the deadline for the competition. I am there assisting him whenever I can, chasing parts emptying the garbage can or whatever! I can't believe the number of fans that drop by to hang out at the shop. I appreciate their enthusiasm, but hope they will understand our deadline. Thanks for the good comments that have been posted about the project!!

it needs to be ready for the warn comp in early nov. I think Eric estimated it completed two weeks from this past tuesday. He needs about a week just to wire the damn thing.
incontrol 10-05-2001, 04:26 PM I can see the Bronco resemblance. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Why the hell does the frame of the vehicle go so far past the rear axle?
And what is with the chincy front side bars?
Other than that, I Really Like the rig, too cool!!
Brawler 10-06-2001, 07:50 PM Those chinsey front side bars are the bars the body panels fasten to. Hence all the dzus clips. The frame goes so far past the axle because the fuel tank and storage rack mount above the axle. Sloan took some pics that can better illustrate this.
bowtie16 10-06-2001, 10:22 PM hey guys it looks great, just a question for ya though...it looks as though you moved the rear coilovers top mounting location (from the side, to the rear of the cab) why was that? And what did you guys ever come up with to fix the steering problem?
Just curious.
p.s. how did Eric and Eian place out in Farmington?
incontrol 10-06-2001, 10:24 PM Not to mention a little frame extension past the rear axle keeps from doing back flips as easy. <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">
Makes for good wheel stands.
<IMG width=600 height=450 SRC="http://www.pirate4x4.com/ubb/uploads/6253.jpg">
<IMG SRC="smilies/usa.gif" border="0">
Brawler 10-06-2001, 10:50 PM Eric And Ian placed 5th in Farmington. I believe he moved the original shock location because at full lock and the caster of the portals the rear steer would allow the tires to hit the springs a little.
rockbound 10-07-2001, 06:28 AM I got ya!
Can't wait to see the completed pics!!

Yes i will be there providing my rig is complete. It only has a few minor things to be completed but Eric is real busy. I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

robellis77 10-08-2001, 05:52 AM Pretty sweet stuff. Who made those axles for ya or is that all your work?

Yes, Unimogs have reverse rotaion outters. That is why Avalanche had to do 3 gears instead of 2 in the 2.5 tons to get the axle going in the correct direction. I believe they have some stuff on their site about it.

I wish they were for me. They belong to Reynolds. And CTM did the work.
