: 1HD-FT rebuild

I am considering buying a 1HD-FT engine, for US$1000 which needs a rebuild. The cylinder bore is out of spec and needs larger pistons. To reduce the cost of the rebuild I was considering using bore liners or sleeves and the old pistons, which in addition to the cylinder head and crank seem in good shape.

I'm aware that 1H engines are sleeveless and therefore am concerned about the performance and engine longevity if I do use bore liners. Which brand of liners would you recommend? Are IZUMI cylinder liners any good?

Any info with regard to the above would be highly appreciated.

Many thanks.

There May be some folks here who could answer your diesel tech question, but I'd check the diesel forum on Mud. There's 6000 threads of Toyota diesel specific stuff there.

Already posted there. However, yet to receive a reply on the 1hdft.

It was cheaper for us to do a short block from toyota in Oz even with the shipping.

Edit, to note the engine I believe can be bored and sleeved like a 2H.

Rosco on mud posted up a great little video on a 13BT rebuild from Oz, the owner(engine builder) noted that balancing the engine could add almost 40% to the life of the engine.
