question: can you fix coils to their mounts on both ends of the coil? mine was built so that it was attached at the bottom and the top just hangs around on its own. problem is i have alot of travel and they pull apart. i'm putting on limiting straps, but i was thinking i've seen them attached top and bottom and was wondering how the springs held up like that. also, i'm thinking about a currie antirock sway bar cause this thing rides so silly soft and unstable on the road. how does everybody like theirs? it still isn't nearly done, but here are the pics i promised.

yes you can. over time it will stretch the springs and they will eventually sag and wear out, but coils are cheap so its worth it. the other thing you can do is run a "dropout cone", like this-

http://www.rovertym.com/ourprod/longercones/PIC00011.jpg

it allows the spring to come off its seat, but it re-seats it by itslef upon compression.

there is no need to run limiting straps IMO, the coils (when retained top and bottom) will act as a limiting strap on there own. when you run a cone, you need to either build a limiting strap or use the shock as your limiter.

and if you build retainers for the top and bottom, they gotta be BEEFY. there is a lot of tension on that spring pulling against your retainers and you dont want them to break. i blew out a set of top and bottom retainers at the same time last year. big CLANG and then the spring hit the ground hehe.

SOMETHING needs to limit your suspension. Shocks, springs, stops, or straps... in the order of decreasing cost.

IMHO, do it right and use limiting straps. They are cheap and adjustable -- and dead-simple reliable.

Take it back to whoever built it and work with them to finish the job. They presumably already know your suspension, and should be able to quickly spec and attach it for you.

oh, trust me, its already back in the shop. but for different reasons. the shop was closer to tow it back to than my house. it went submarine on me all the way up the windshield. i took a few gallons of water out of the engine, but it was too wet for any electricals to work properly. the speakers fizzled and the windshield wipers wouldn't go off. luckily i didn't have my camera with me, or it would be full of water and broken, hense no pics of that.

hi randii.

its not nearly finished anyways, but i wanted to go play with what i had and test a few things. i already have limiting straps on it, now ( 4wp shipped them slower than they said they would ) i'm just figuring out if i want to attach the coils to the top to not only hold them on, but hold the side on the outside of a turn down. that way it doesn't want to roll so bad on the street.

check out the site i just put up. its for the shop in texas that is helping my build my project, since i took it apart and didn't have the time or complete knowledge to finish it.
