So... I went behind my targets again today while swapping my shoot`n`c :p and 8ft behind it (wood post) I found a 9mm Hydra-Shok bullet (was testing them out). The jacket had been pushed back but that was it. The bullet was laying on the snow, in perfect condition (minus jacket pushed back)... it had obviously gone through the entire wood target, and maybe a small tree and then just stopped and there it sat in the snow. No "mushroom" affect at all. And it had gone through something that was dense enough to stop it 8ft in mid-air...

This should have mushroomed ?

I`ll get pics soon.

I also got a .223 that stopped 6ft behind the target in PERFECT condition, a .45 Winchester "Personal Protection" that STOPPED in the target post, and mushroomed perfectly.

I`ll get pics of the 9mm soon as that was the surprising one to me.

I'm not a forensic firearms examiner, but I wouldn't expect complete mushrooming of a Hydra-Shok when sent through a very dense (compared to muscle tissue) substrate such as a wood post. There are many JHP pistol caliber bullets that will sometimes fail to expand when their cavities are clogged with cloth, plastic, bone, wood, etc.

It wasn't clogged.

I would have expected more deformation from a 9mm in general, especially a hollow point.

I plan to test / compare some more in the future on different material too.
