With the Dakar coming up, I thought you guys would find this clip pretty cool. A breif little segment in it of them building one of the chassis starting from CAD to finished product.
I thought it was cool, figured I'd share :flipoff2:

broncolou 01-03-2009, 06:27 AM Very cool video..... I am surprised how small of tire they are running. Doesn't even look to be a 33".

zjohnson 01-03-2009, 09:51 PM Pretty cool how some of the frame, for suspension pivots is removeable compared to how we commonly build pivots into vehicles here. Looks like an awesome car. I think the toe out came from the driver being a little crossed up in the air, that much bump steer with suck little travel is ridiculous.:D
Samco Fab 01-08-2009, 08:19 PM The tire size and wheel travel is limited by rules by the Dakar orginizers. It is about 10" and 31" tires. If you want big wheel travel and big tires, you must race a 2 wheel drive. They all also have restrictor plates. It makes for good battles of technology with the 2wd Robby Gordon /J.L. Sclesscher type machines vs. the Vdub / Mitsu rally 4 wd machines.
Unlimited rally cars died in the late 80's with the group B rally cars demise. Those cars are nuts.....

a lot of ackerman. if you look at his left front it is turned in slightly. also, being 4wd they run a little bit of toe out in front.
Just surfing one of my favorite sites and found some picture of the Dakar race that I thought were cool.
Pictures are always fun to look at :flipoff2: Enjoy!

It looked to me like both wheels turned right in the air because of driver imput I would assume, but it's hard to tell.
What I find interesting is that they run dual coil-overs, seems like a single coil-over with a heavier spring-rate and a bypass with a body the same size as the OD of the coil would be a better use of space, mite be a funky FIA rule governing that though.
