Want to recommend me a cheap set of clubs?

I'm 6'5" or so, so finding clubs that are long enough has been kinda challenging.

And I don't play often enough to justify an $800 set, so I'd like to keep it under $200 total for bag and clubs.

Any opinions?

I golf once a year and end up breaking atleast 1 club and throwing the bag into the fucking water, that game pisses me off:mad3: Get some from the thrift store and fuck them up till ya find what you like. Then throw them in a pond.

Look for a Brand Name used set of Irons (Ping, Taylor Made, Callaway) . Top Notch irons that are 3-4 years old are very affordable. I recommend irons with steel shafts. Ping Irons are usually custom fitted when bought new so finding a set of +1 or +2 used ones probably won't be that hard.

Look at Used Drivers on Ebay. I recommend Ping G2 Drivers. Cheap and Very Good.

Dont buy a set of El-Cheapo all in one Woods/Irons/Bag combo's. You will spend just as much as some quality used stuff and the cheapo's will bring the suck.

When I worked at a local golf shop, I was fit for Ping clubs. I took those specs, and found a used set on eBay. We had guys do this all the time. It pissed the shop pro off. He stopped giving out their fit worksheets.

No matter the set you get, if they aren't long enough for you, you can take them in and get shaft extension installed fairly cheap. You may have to re-grip the clubs if the grips are old. If they are new, they should be able to re-use them.

at 6'5" you're gonna have to have them reshafted for you.

Check out golfsmith.com you can build your own or reshaft exixting clubs very easily. Do you have a heat gun? You can remove most clubheads by heating with a heat gun and using constant pressure to remove the clubheads. I built my own clubs 6-7 years ago for around $350.00. CAreful it is an addicting hobby building clubs.

Go to Dick's or one of the other chain sports stores and talk to the guys in the golf department. They aren't as knowledgable as guys working at a proshop but they do sell a lot of clubs to casual golfers, they should be able to help you find a set that fits.

I've played with a lot of nice high end clubs, and a lot of cheapo clubs and you'll do just fine with the cheapies. Don't spend a bunch of money thinking expensive clubs will make you a better golfer.

Or just find a used set from a tall guy who's giving up the sport or upgrading.

Bend your knees more and put the but of the club in the middle of your upper hand :flipoff2:

I am 6'6" and play so little i dont really care. I have a garage sale set of clubs that work fine for my 9 hole 90 that i shoot. I would rather spend the $$$ on a good cooler and refreshments :flipoff2:

Yep, but being able to properly stand and handle the clubs does go a long way.. using clubs the right length was eye opening at 6'4"

So I went out and bought a set of clubs. this set (http://www.golfgalaxy.com/galaxy/product.asp?pf_id=DistanceMasterGold16MensComplete Set&path=Complete+Sets&search_handle=QT1Db21wbGV0ZSBTZXRzfkI9Q29tcGxldGUg U2V0c35EPTMwfkk9UHJpY2V_Sz00fkw9MX5NPTF_&scid=SearchResults&spoffset=1&s_id=0) from golf galaxy in dallas.

They suggested I play a few rounds with them to see how they felt before discussing any adjusting or shaft lengthening.

I took them out today and played and they felt fine, but could probably be lengthened a bit. I'm still suck too much at golf to determine if it's me or if it's the clubs that need adjusting... but I'm betting it's me more than anything.

Thats a good set, at a pretty good price.

It's very complete... fairway woods, bag, etc.

It should work out well for you.

I sold golf clubs well before I ever even tried playing... the price you pay definitely doesn't determine how well you're able play.

Im 6'4" and I bought a set of cheap Ram Line golf clubs brand new for around $150 bucks. They could be a hair longer but I golf maybe 20 times a year. My idea of golf is playin the front nine and being drunk by the back nine. I usually golf around 100 or so, Im not that good but its fun...

My dad is a certified golf nut, and been playing for 40+ years, and currently (at age 62) still plays 2-3x per week. He's also 6'4" tall - so he can comment on the height issues too.

If you have any questions, ask away and I'll gladly relay his answers back here.

BTW, he's tried pretty much every club under the sun a one time or another - and those who said the cost of the club doesn't mean you hit it better are dead on. I've seen him set aside $300+ drivers in favor of $20 yardsale drivers that he just plain hits better.
