landusepbb 08-18-2002, 01:32 PM Just put these pics up on our club website today, figured you guys might enjoy them, fellow Rock Garden club member Brett McFarlands 83 CJ-7 w/ 60 and 14b w/ 38.5 TSLs. Very flexy, in the Garden.

CJ5-Man 08-18-2002, 02:23 PM maybe i'm just blind, but where are the springs?
I dont see coils or leaves on there, any more details on the suspension?

I believe he's running quarter elliptic both ends.
CJ5-Man 08-18-2002, 02:39 PM thats what I thought, but I havent seen too many 1/4 elliptical front setups.
looks like it works great

I lightened up pic #2, you can see it a bit better now.
jeepbrew 08-18-2002, 03:25 PM Looking good... but with 1/4 elliptical, he is gonna have flex whether he is FS or not
moveaside 08-18-2002, 04:10 PM all that flex and the cab pretty level sweet:flipoff2:
Keith Strong 08-19-2002, 07:54 AM Got any close ups of his 1/4 set up?

That is part of the reason for wanting flex
4Bangler 08-19-2002, 08:08 AM Umm....No, that's not flex, that's BALANCED FLEX, that's why the cab is level, unlike many super duper ramp champs that have unlimited rear droop and no stuff on the front, I love the pics of rigs "flexed out" and the front bumper is still parallel with the front axle.
Nice setup, how does it handle on the street? We've got a 1/4 ellip front and rear in our association, but it looks pretty scary on the street.

Well said. Thats kinda what I meant, but you said it a lot better than I could have ;)

That rig is a trail only rig, understandable so!

No closeups, but I'd like to get Brett to do a write up with pics for our club webpage. Obviously I've wheeled with him and that thing thing is pretty damn good, it will walk right up and through stuff I don't even begin to think about trying, and it looks easy.

Noone (besides around here) really understand what the point of balanced flex is fore. Friends just wont listen to me. :D
4Bangler 08-19-2002, 05:45 PM I'm having the same problem with a couple of tool boxes around here, one guy has a funky attempt at a 3/4 elliptic rear that uses a whole leaf spring as the buggie leaf, mounted with the eye bushing and everything, why bother with a spring at all? It's not working as a spring, you might as well just not bolt your springs to the axle, sure it ramps like 1200, but it's almost rolling over, and the front springs never even move. I put a zip tie on his front shocks and it got moved down about 1/4" on the driver's side, I think that's when his fat ass got in. The other guy built his own super duper four link parallel setup with looooooooong coils, cool looking setup that flexes like mad, but it's just SOA up front, and with stiff spring to boot. Again, all the flex in the world, but abotu three feet of rear steer, and it hikes it's ass like a queer at Mardi Gras when you step on it or try to climb anything, and they wonder why my whipped out off-the shelf junk walks right by them on the rocks
