: OOP's my CPL expired
Scoutillac 01-02-2009, 05:17 PM So I realized when buying a firearm the other day that I had let my CPL expire DOH!!!!! I am still with in the 90 window for late renewal so I did not have to reapply, just pay an extra 10 bucks for the permit. So I have an expired CPL and a receipt for my renewal but it will take my local PD up to 30 day's to send me my renewed permit. I asked the admin at the PD if I was still OK to carry but she was really vague:shaking::shaking: So, if you were me would you continue to carry or would you leave your weapon at home? As I have never had to present my CPL in the past, have no record ect I am feeling like I will continue to carry and hope for the best. What say ye PBB?

I would bet on Mr. Murphy.
Leave it home until you get a new one.

So it's a catch-22, eh :p ?!!
87manche 01-02-2009, 06:13 PM don't ask the police dept for an answer, call the DA or law director. That's the people that would ultimately press the charges if it came to that.

Ya, I have little trust in my local PD. I called them 2 times requesting info on renewal and got 2 totally different answers:shaking:
Vortec_Cruiser 01-02-2009, 07:39 PM If in doubt, why run the risk?
Bubba Ray Boudreaux 01-02-2009, 07:57 PM If in doubt, why run the risk?
Exactly. Even though there's a lot of us that don't give a rat's ass one way or another, there's always that guy running around..............
paragon 01-02-2009, 08:01 PM If in doubt, why run the risk?
run the risk of getting caught without a valid license or run the risk of being in an encounter and not having a weapon to protect yourself or your family?
Scoutillac 01-02-2009, 08:09 PM I am sitting here reading the RCW, clarity is eluding me. http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.41.070 I think I will keep it in my car, but the mag will be out and the chamber will be empty:( for the week or 2 anyway.
Totalled 01-02-2009, 08:23 PM If I run your plate on my MDT, not only do I get your driving record, but I'll get the info on your CPL as well as other things.... so, it depends on if you are worried about "that guy" as bubba put it...
EDIT: I'll try to get you a solid answer tomorrow.

I will be rolling through Tumwater tomorrow about 11 am in a brown 99 Tahoe:flipoff2: Are you local or WSP? My brothers x-wife's dad was a trooper in that area for a long time.
Totalled 01-03-2009, 09:54 PM I'm a CSO for a local. Consensus was by the letter of the law, expired CPL = no CPL = unlawful concealed carry. If you would get busted for it is up to the judgment of the officer if said situation arose.
EDIT: I read your original post again. Having proof that you renewed it would likely not make it an issue... but once again, it depends on "that guy"....
Scoutillac 01-04-2009, 03:54 PM I am just gonna go with caution on this one. :D
TNToy 01-04-2009, 05:51 PM I'd go that way, too. 2 weeks isn't worth even the remote possibility of getting arrested. Especially the risk that you'd somehow wind up charged with something that would permanently disqualify you from ever getting a permit again.

Interestingly, I interpreted that completely different from how you did.
