: How fast do balljoints wear out?

I am doing my first major buildup and due to cost will be running a D44/D60 combo w/ 38.5 SX's. This of course is on my YJ running the 4.0.

I've read the only bad thing about running the D44 over a D60 besides of course strength is that ball joints wear out faster running that big of a tire. My question is exactly how fast will they wear out?

I was just reading a thread the other day, and it was agreed upon that HI-steer arms help kill upper ball joints as much, or more so than large tires. Something to think about.

Also, I don't think there will be an argument that wide tires are harder on everything vs. a narrow tire.

Exactly 52,561 miles.

If you dont have the money for a front D60 and you have to run a D44 then why are you asking? Just put it together, quit worrying about it and go wheelin. When the ball joints get some play in them you replace them. You will know when they wear out because you are under your vehicle tightening bolts and checking for damage before each trail run correct?????????????

I never replaced the ones in my D44 with hi steer and 38.5" TSL SX's. My buddy has the exact same setup and drives his frequently on the rode and trail. Never replaced his either. Probably has something to do with using Sicer ball joints instead of K-mart specials.

A lot of it depends on how you drive your rig and how fast you take the corners. Until then run it and worry about it when it breaks:flipoff2:

Ok cool. I didn't want an exact mileage but just wanted to know I wouldn't need to expect to change them bi-monthly or weekly, wasen't sure at all how long they lasted.

Thanks!!
