I use my guns not so often, I am not really the type of person to go to a range every week-end. I might go to the range once a year, generally I shoot 35 or or less rounds a year through my rifles. I want to be able to use my AR for hunting to help justify it, .223 is fine here but over the years I have been invited places like WV and WI where i think such a small round would be frowned upon. I was thinking about changing up to 6.8 or .300 whisper, the biggest downsides I found to these rounds is the cost, but for shooting such a low amount per year I do not see it bothering me all that much.

If you want to use it to hunt i would suggest .308. i have killed deer with a .223, but its "frowned upon" by some people and illegal in certain states.
AR-10 .308. Surplus or match grade ammo easily available. Makes a good hunting rifle, plinker, or range gun.

Another vote for .308, enough for deer out to 600 yards and common enough to find anywhere.

Nope, My dad has the tools but for the amount I shoot I do not think its worth while. I might try it just for fun one time though.

What companies offer the .308? I've only found a couple.
