I have never rebuilt an automatic transmission before but I am feeling ambitious.

I been searching for links and info but I haven't found much in terms of a real guide to doing a rebuild.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance.

Go for it...

Get yourself an ATG manual, lots of CLEAN workspace, and some time.

I have never done a 700.
But have done numerous 350s and 400s and of course tons of Honda autos and manuals at work.
Most guys are afraid to dig into an auto. My advice is, dont be.
If ya fuck somethin up its a great motivator to get it right:flipoff2:
Ive learned WAY more from mistakes Ive made with them then getting them right the first time.

Yeah get the atsg manual. i have one for most of chevy transitions. they are priceless when you have a problem.:D
And I have done 2 700r4's, and one th400 with only standard wrenches, vise grips and a HB gear puller set, oh and 2 pennies, put these under the jaws on the pliers to pull out the pump. Have fun.

now, everyone tells me NOT to do a 700r your first time. they a tad bit more complicated than the TH350/400's ... I don't know how bad it really is but I do know there are more specialized tools required to do the job.

It's doable. I did mine about this time last year, never had rebuilt a trans and it has over 5000 miles on it, still going strong. I got a DVD on rebuilding the 700r4 on Ebay made by Technical Videos ($30). Step by step through the whole process. Transmission Parts USA is a great place to get all the parts you need. It will be hard to do without a trans spring compressor (I bought one-$70). You'll also need a lip seal installer tool (just a small bent piece of wire). I used a feeler gauge and ended up cutting up one of the seals. You'll want a case of brake cleaner and like the others have said A LOT of space and time. I also highly recommend a trans cooler with fan, deep pan and a temp gauge. Good luck.
