: 84 Bronco Fuel Tank Question

My buddy has an 84 Bronco that he wheels. Unfortunately, it didnt have a fuel tank skid plate, and he has managed to bash the ever living shit out of the tank. To the point that it is leaking in fact...

So now we are looking for a new tank, and planning on putting it in the back of the truck somewhere out of the way.

Anybody got any suggestions for donor tanks, where to mount them, etc.? What is everybody else in the full-size Bronco community doing?

Thanks.

in my 85 bronco i left it in the stock location but sealed it to the skid plate with a whole tube of silicone,(if you dont seal them they get mud and rock in the middle of the tank/skid plate, then you get a hole real quick). then modified a receiver hitch to stop the major hits. after 3 tanks, this has been the only combo in mine that has held up.

If he didn't have a factory skid he shoulda had the smaller 25gal tank. TTBOMK all the 32gal's came w a factory skid, and that is in fact all that holds the tank in place.

Personally, I took two factory skids and doubled them up. Kinda ghetto but easy and holds up well. I spaced the skid down just a little because the rust forms where the tank and skid rest on one another (poor design). Considering I have a shackle flip the tank is the least of my concerns w departure angle.

The smaller tank in question should sit just about flush w the rear framerails, so I'm not sure I can see much reason to move it. Build a custom skid, keep the weight low and the room in the back of the vehicle, and be done w it. You can also grab a rear pickup tank (19gal maybe?) and it will sit flush w the framerails, and should otherwise drop in. You'll probably need the pickup-specific "pickup" to pull the fuel off the bottom of the tank. I'm only familiar w in-tank pump designs here.
