hey, im a ford guy and know not a damn thing about chevys. but i just got a turbo 400 for one of my projects. just wanting to know if anyone has any tips on building these really really strong, like certain types of planets and everything. also, does anyone make lower gears for these? any and all help is appreciated

You can get lower gears for them not sure of $. I know Art Carr has one. Getting the planetaries from a th475 is another good mod. Be sure to upgrade to the 34 sprag. There are a couple of good books that outline some good upgrades. Haven't found any good online sources yet.

straight cut helicals out of a HD400 like out of a motor home adds a lot of strength. my brother just had one built for 1200 bucks, but it'll take 800hp or better so it's pretty cheap for all that strength, plus he got the lower planetaries for first gear and all the goodies.

make sure you get a heavy duty second gear band. also maybe a HD input shaft. my buddy exploded his but he was burning 36 swampers in second gear with a detroit locker on a dailey basis.
sec. band for sure though. :)

coan engineering will have all the parts u need. I used to work for'em.If u need someone to build that tranny for u let me know.
