: AR upper questions

After doing some research on CT's post ban laws If ran into a few questions. I have somewhat of a build criteria for an AR in CT.

-No collapsible stocks that aren't pinned.
-Barrels have to be 16" or longer, and can't have flash hiders/suppressors
-No fore grips
-No threaded barrels, any compensator or muzzel brake has to be "Permanently" attached to the end
-No bayonet lug

So this makes choosing an Upper pretty important otherwise I could find my ass getting banged by Bubba after the lights go out.

I'm going to be building a 6.8 SPC, I know I want a chrome lined barrel and a mid-length gas system....

What's the difference between a Government contour and a MedCon barrel? Both uppers are the same price on Pete's site.

I'm guessing I can just carefully grind off the bayonet lug?

Thoughts on Compensators and Muzzel brakes? I'm pretty sure I want the brake, and noticed that several come hand in hand but I haven't been able to find a combined comp/brake for the 6.8, do they exist?

How do I permantely attach them? JB weld on the threads? Have it welded? I remember somebody was saying something about some solder on the threads then heat it up to 1100+ degrees so it bounds? I want to try stay away from refinishing a barrel.

Both barrels come with optional gas blocks, do i need these? I think I will be running a rail at some point if that makes a difference.

Is there anything else that I should be looking at or may have missed?

Heres both of the uppers from Pete's Online Store

Thanks for any info or opinions.

If its a parked barrel, what I have done is to cut off the bayo lug.
Drill, pin, weld the brake.
Sandblast and repark the barrel.
Not too hard to open up a 5.56 brake
