: made some side bars (pic)
flmanyj 08-18-2002, 04:44 PM i guess i can try them out in tellico on laborday
i need to put and end cap on them
but how do you like them
they are just tack welded so i can change them
flmanyj 08-18-2002, 04:45 PM n2
Nobody 08-18-2002, 04:46 PM heh.....good idea :usa:
Would make some great tie downs on my junk too
rkcrawl 08-18-2002, 05:47 PM Whats behind them? If they aren't tied into anything I'd be worried about transfer all the weight of a hard hit to those 2 mounts points on the body tub.
Where in FL are you??
flmanyj 08-18-2002, 05:56 PM there tied to the rollcage in 2 spots
i am in melbourne
elf_cruiser 08-18-2002, 06:30 PM All that will do in a roll over will bent your cowl, windshield frame, and shear those two screws like toothpicks. There's a reason that full cages use a front hoop that bolts to the body tub just above the rocker panel.
edit: sorry i was referring to the front cage bars. Your rear sliders look good for protecting the body.
TNToy 08-18-2002, 07:02 PM How do you like those pizza-cutters in tellico-type terrain. I'm guessin' you don't run much sand...
moveaside 08-18-2002, 07:26 PM Seeing as how their is an excessive amount of body damage to your rig I can see how those are necessary:flipoff2:
wheelinjp 08-18-2002, 09:12 PM Hey I like the side bars. Do you have any full side and front shots of your rig? I am thinking of going to the 38.-11 bogger and just want to see how it looks. I like the exo it keeps the windshield frame from smashing in a light roll. I would do something like that but gotta have a full top in Washington state.
Alaskan Assassin 08-18-2002, 10:47 PM Looks good flmanyj. I really like the YJ! Very nice! We love those skinny boggers up here:D
I take it you have never flopped your rig. You'll be changeing the front cage mounts if you survive. :D My $.02 - Weld that fawking cage to the frame.
Now as far as the side bars - looks like something to get stuff hung on but if you like them more power to ya:D
SHERPA 08-19-2002, 06:57 AM as some of you guys are bagging on this guy, he's pointing out
the quarter-panel bars. not his cage.
and I've seen kits that use the windshield-hinge mounting holes
for the front hoop before. the only big pisser I see about the
way the front hoop attaches to the hinge is that now that wind-
shield can no longer be folded down. huge PITA I think.
but keep up your work dude...........

But, they use the LOWER windshield mounts, not the top ones. The cowl is stronger than the windshield frame, which is what flmanyj has attached the cage to.
IMO, the ends of the side bars need to be made to meet the body so they do nort hang up w/ the roots and such that are prevelant in Tellico, as he has stated he goes to.
SHERPA 08-19-2002, 07:21 AM Ian........ you are correct sir, I recant my statement....... I wasn't
looking/thinking close enough...... that cage would fold/hinge-fail
in a hard roll.... a flop maybe not. a hard roll, it'll self-remove the
windshield when it goes on it's lid......
--Sherpa..... I stand corrected.

Just because "they" make a kit for it doesn't make it right or safe. Hell, "they" make street locks and adapters to put SBC infront of t-5 transmissions. So think about it.
I just hate to see anyone get hurt.
flmanyj 08-19-2002, 04:08 PM you cant see from the pic but there is also a rollbar in side if the jeep that attches to the frame by were your foot goes
and the out side bar you see attaches to that so you kinda
have 2 rollbars
the one you see just protects the windshild frame
and the other one protects the driver in a hard roll
flmanyj 08-19-2002, 04:17 PM were they mount to the wind shield there is 4 bolts on each side
I like 'em! Something new.
They can double as towel racks, too!
