: FrankenRover Update
FrankenRover 08-18-2002, 06:57 PM Just a quick update and some picts. I picked up the 300 tdi in Dallas last weekend, and recieved most of the rest of the stuff mailorder to finish the truck. Unfortunately the steering column (a nice custom GM tilt column) was damaged during shipping, so along with a few other snafu's it looks like the Nat. Rally is a no go for the 110. However, I am still very excited about getting it all together very soon. In fact KC and Ben are coming down from Dallas next week to help swing the engine into the frame and start breathing some life into things.
I have included some picts of the freshly painted body work. Maroon baby!!! GIG EM Aggies!!! Also a teaser pict of some frame mods, and the Crawler.
Thats it for now,
Blister

FrankenRover 08-18-2002, 07:00 PM 1.4 Tcase and Crawler.
FrankenRover 08-18-2002, 07:03 PM Last but not least, a Bilstein 7100 14" travel shock in Doug M's mounts.
Front - 360/80
Rear - 255/70 (yes Adam, that is what they are - it is labeled on the shock:flipoff2: )
Serious One 08-18-2002, 07:26 PM Bill!
Looking good man. I LIIIIIKE the color. Totally different, but way nice looking. People are going to ask if it's factory!
I totally understand about Moab.
BTW, I'm an Aggie too! (Utah State though) We called 'em the 'Gaggies'.
Hehe.
Keep the pics coming!
Station 08-18-2002, 09:39 PM So where did you get the T-case from? I ask, because it looks like it just came from a builder/rebuilder. What goodies do you have inside the case? What are the high/low gear ratios?
Could you get some more pictures of all angles of the case? I may be includeing one of these in my project, and would like to get as detailed a look at the case as possible.
Has anybody made a kit to mount one of these divorced style?
I am going to have to mount div. style on my project. With a short intermediate shaft you can get it to be close to se same length (or sometimes actually shorter) than a married setup.
Sorry about all of the questions in one post. I have allot of questions about this transfer case which for some reason isn't very popular despite all of the advantages that I see.
Thank you,
Sean
BTW, the Rover is going to be BEAUTIFUL. Love the color. Your fab work looks nice.
I want a 110 daily driver/mild trail vehicle sooo bad, but definitely can not afford anything like it right now.
Serious One 08-18-2002, 10:04 PM Sean,
I put a divorce mount LT-230 in my project.
AFAIK it's probably the first one ever done (that's AFAIK, someone in S. Africa might have done one, but I am not sure).
Anyway, the brackets aren't tough, but the input shaft will have to be modified (duh).
Enjoy the pic.
roverhybrids 08-18-2002, 11:30 PM I dig the zip tie U-bolts:flipoff2:
No longer do you have to fiddle with a wrench to remove your driveline, just a couple of clips with the snips and wala!

Ok Bill, enough is enough. Spill them beans. The rear cross member is narrow because........
AWE COME ON!
<grin>
RockRover 08-19-2002, 08:44 AM Lookin' good Bill. I'm in the same boat. Won't be going to the Rally:(
Hmmmmmmmm. What could be the mystery modification? Hmmmmmm.
Notice there is NO pic's of the bed...Notice there are mod's to the rear x-member. Me thinks that he's bobbing/narrowing the rear tub to accomodate his extreme desires. Probably getting rid of the rear overhang and extra width.
I betcha' it's not in the pics because it's still being fab'd and/or waiting for paint.

P.S. Pics of RockRoverExtreme coming soon!

No, look at the pics. He is running a modified HiCap cab. I see the rear of the cab upper curved peice and lower cab back.
I bet he is trying to beat Mike to rally with his own ice cream truck!

I have to know more about this. Looks awesome.
Can you post some more info/pics on the board, or PM me?
I can run this T-case with my Mog axles, if I have 1 custom axle shaft made. Only thing that is missing with this T-case that I would like to have is twin stick. I gather that a twin stick modification is not possible with this case even with the part time mod??
Thanks,
Sean
redrangie 08-19-2002, 12:51 PM damn dude. those are the CLEANEST swivels I have ever seen.
Nice work:flipoff2:

You are correct sir...However IF it could be done, Tim Cooper could do it. However I just can't see it happening.

Sure...That's what I mean. He's got a custom rear in the planning/fabrication stages.
Of course Bill's balls are clean...He's a doctor...And you never know when you'll be in an accident!

oh yah - go aggies!! i went to Oklahoma State University for two years . . . hoping to finish now at u.washington after a hellish 6 yr stint in seattle's dot-com land :(
cheers
Okie State. I went to Oklahoma University. We're practically neighbors, at least at one time anyway.
BTW, don't bring up the football game from last year. That's kind of a sore subject for me. This year WILL be different!
Go Sooners!
SeaRover 08-20-2002, 11:24 AM i was born and raised in shawnee, maybe 30 minutes away from norman - which is partly why I chose to go to OSU - further from the folks!

Yea but no JB weld, duct tape or a BFH (Yea I saw the rubber mallet, thats no hammer)
Hell you can beat a square peg into a round hole with a BFH.....
:flipoff2:
-Jeff
Serious One 08-20-2002, 12:26 PM personally I was enjoying the prybar (man those come in handy), engine hoist and acetylene tank.
I noticed the rubber mallet too. I think i have the same exact one!
Honestly I do like seeing all the junk in the background of everyone's pics, but I think I've said that before.

I spent the first 17 years of my life in Little Axe, which is about 15 minutes west of Shawnee. Then my family moved to Norman. Small world!:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
I'll have you all know that Bill does indeed have a bfh. He'se so proud of his BFH he kindly allowed me to use it to whack his rock sliders in Moab last year.
Here'se to you Bill and your bfh. Keep on whacking.
Dont mind what those nasty boys are saying about your little mallet. The rest of us know and recognise the owner of a BFH when we see one.
:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
FrankenRover 08-21-2002, 07:13 AM Hey boys,
What you can't see in the picts is that there is a spool of bailing wire, some duct tape, and some Right Stuff sealant right next to the rest of the stuff as well. Woohoo
If my neighbors only knew what was going on in my garage :)
As far as the BFH goes. I let Merv handle my "unit" only because he was an out-of-towner. No others need apply.
