well ihave been searching and saw the TOTW and some other little threads on EFI for a AMC 360. but i was looking a that custom EFI web site and what is stoping me form just going to the junkyard and picking up all the sensors and such getting a TBI adapter and bolting all the sensors to my motor? the only thing i can think of is the wiring harness, and how to rig up the ignition. anyone done this? i sure you have so spill the beans! i am real tired of stalling on steep hills:eek:
(sorry for spelling errors office 2k took a dump on me!)

Nothing is stopping you....
If you read all of the info on the custom efi site, he even mentions that the tech info is on there to help the guys who want to do it themselves...
One issue would be programming the chip, which you can do yourself but involves getting computer hardware to do it...
The site even gives details on how to modify a distributor to be computer controlled...
I might spend the $260 or so for a Painless TBI harness,,, might be worth the money not having to sort out a factory junkyard harness (birdsnest)...

here is a discussion on HEI distributors for the AMC V8's with EFI:

Eric Ruhl put a cheb 454 TBI setup on his 401. Search for him and/or that swap and you should find some more info.
Good luck:D

I tried to buy "components" from him,,, but he would only sell me the complete kit... so he wouldn't have to try to troubleshoot other peoples (junkyard) stuff mixed with his while your trying to get your jeep running.... (makes sense to me)
I ended up getting a complete kit from him... I had already bought a painless wiring harness, but I was able to return it...
This was the best money spent on my jeep, I will never run a carb again...(on any vehicle)

i'm only running a 258 (until it blows then 302), but i am putting together the junkyard tbi. i got my tbi unit off ebay (chevy 350) for $75, i got the ecm off ebay (chevy 4.3) $30, got the sensors from a friend, ordering the adapter plate from howell, and the harness from john (customefi). if you have a 4bbl manifold on there right now i know that john uses a 4bbl to 2bbl adapter and a custom adapter for the tbi to the 2 to 4 adapter. if you have a 2bbl manifold you can get the adapter from howell.
howell sells the harnesses for an absurd amount of money
painless wiring sells them for about $270
and john will put one together for $200
www.chevythunder.com supposedly makes them too
if you are gonna do it its a good idea to pick up the howell installation book, or the painless book, i think they're both about $12
anyway, my POS carter just blew up on me so i have to expedite the operation here. i have all of the parts and will probably order my harness and adapter this weekend. ill let you know how it goes putting it all on. the only thing that worries me is the distributor mod, but i guess it shouldn't be too hard.

you might want to check out the diyefi.com -org site. cant remember which it ends with. lot of good info on there has wiring diagrams of the computer. info on the sensors and applications
